Join the Latino Resource Center as we celebrate the start of a new academic year and welcome Huskies to the Fall 2026 semester! Latin Chill, will be on August 31 from 4-6pm at the Latino Center. This is where new and returning Huskies can connect, learn about our student organizations, resources, and enjoy being in community! We hope to see you there!

Please note that the area of the Latin Chill will be next to the Latino Center on Newman Lane; this section of Newman Ln will be closed to traffic from 3pm-7pm.

Today is technically not international James Bond day but we at the LRC are nominating it double o' seven day (07/07) get it? We have but one name for you: Rubirosa, Porfirio Rubirosa...Dominican Diplomat...Latin Lover...Spy...๐
It's true! Porfirio Rubirosa was the real life Dominican Afro Latino Man that likely inspired the creation of Ian Flemingโs iconic spy character - James Bond. Rubirosa, was a Dominican diplomat who spoke over five languages and worked to represent the Dominican Republic abroad during Trujillo's dictatorship. He was married 5 times including to Trujillo's own daughter, Flor de Oro, and other wealthy and famous women. Constantly in the publicโs eye and the tabloids for his numerous love affairs. (Man. Myth. Legend)
Rubirosa served as a diplomat and is said to have been a Dominican spy.
He was also talented, being an international polo champion, dancer, race-car driver, and even a pilot. Heโs believed to have been among the wealthiest people in the world and known for love affairs with celebrities worldwide, having close relationships with VIPs like Frank Sinatra, JFK, Eartha Kitt, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and being investigated by the FBI for allegations of being a political assassin for Trujillo.
He was so suave he even inspired Ralph Lauren to create the Polo shirt!
