๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆHappy Pride month everybody!๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ
June is Pride Month and in honor of this we are sharing amazing Latines/x you should know about and resources! Let's talk about the 'X' and the 'E'... as in the term Latinx and Latine and some examples of how to use in Spanish.

๐‹๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ฑ:Gender-neutral term, sometimes used instead of Latino or Latina to refer to people of Latin American cultural or ethnic identity in the United States.

๐‹๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ž: Spanish language is finally catching up to the same need for a gender-neutral form. However, โ€˜xโ€™ would not easily translate into how Spanish is used verbally, plus its heavily genderedโ€ฆ there is new movement to use โ€˜eโ€™ when speaking in Spanish as it relates to a person instead of โ€˜@โ€™ or โ€˜a/oโ€™.

It follows the vowel grammar and it literally already existedโ€ฆ
Usted๐’†๐’” me entienden verdad?
Even though unrecognized by RAE(Royal Academy of Spanish)
Examples: Doctor/Doctora(s)/Doctore(s) OR Cooks: Cocineros/Cocineras/Cocineres

Gender Neutral: Elle, Elles, Nosotres
Traditionally Female: Ella, Ellas, Nosotras
Traditionally Male: El, Ellos, Nosotros

June is Pride Month and in honor of this we will be sharing amazing Latines/x you should know about. Pride month came in recognition to the Stonewall riots when Bill Clinton was president (2000). So, we start with a Stonewall activist that was there--- Trans-Latina icon:- Sylvia Rivera!

July 2, 1951 - February 19, 2002
๐‘บ๐’•๐’๐’๐’†๐’˜๐’‚๐’๐’- ๐‘ฑ๐’–๐’๐’† 28, 1969
Born in New York City in 1951 to a father from Puerto Rico and a mother from Venezuela. Sylvia, was involved in the 1969 Stonewall Inn uprising, alongside fellow activist and friend Marsha P. Johnson. Sylvia Rivera advocated for those silenced and disregarded by larger movements. She fought against the exclusion of transgender people, especially trans* people of color, from the larger movement for gay rights. Sylvia was involved in many movements including the Black Liberation and Peace movements. Rivera said in a 2001 interview that while she did not throw the first Molotov cocktail at the police (a long-standing myth), she did throw the second. During six nights at Stonewall as a 17 year old, Rivera refused to go home or to sleep, saying โ€œIโ€™m not missing a minute of thisโ€”it's the revolution!โ€
