A Message to Our Walton County School District Families

As we prepare to welcome students back to school, we want our families to know that we understand, we care, and we are here for you.

We all have a part to play in helping our community recover. Ours is to open our doors, welcome our children back, and provide the comfort, care, and normalcy they deserve.

Parents, you know your situation best. The choice to send your child to school is ultimately yours. Please know that we understand and respect your decision. Send a note explaining the circumstances when your child returns, and the absence will be excused.

We also recognize that some of our students have gone an extended period without electricity, air conditioning, or even a warm meal. We want you to know that our schools have power, internet access, and our cafeterias are ready to serve real, freshly prepared meals.

Every family is facing its own challenges, and there is no single path to recovery. Whether your child is ready to return or your family needs a little more time, please know that our hearts are with you.

Our schools are ready, our doors are open, and our people are here to welcome your children with open arms.

We are more than a school district. We are a community, and we will move forward together.

Since Friday evening, MSE has been used as a hub to feed 250 to 300 linemen three meals a day. Each day, our campus provided the kitchen and lunchroom for a sit-down breakfast, sack lunches, and a full four-course dinner. Our very own cafeteria managers, Ms. Hatcher and Ms. Kelly, spent the entire night on-site Friday and arrived at 4:00 AM on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday to ensure everything ran smoothly. Our Assistant Principal, Mr. Coker, has also spent countless early hours at the school to ensure the needs of these linemen were met. The dedication of these leaders has been nothing short of inspiring. During this challenging time, the core values of our MSE culture and climate have truly shined. It was an honor for MSE to be a part of giving back to our community.

For those asking, we have full use of our cafeteria kitchen and the menu tomorrow (Wednesday) is french toast sticks for breakfast and corn dogs for lunch!

We look forward to seeing the smiling faces of our Maude Saunders students on Wednesday! For many of our students and staff, it will feel good to be back in our routine, with the comfort of air conditioning and hot meals at school. For some, this may not be possible. For those who are unable to return due to storm-related circumstances, grace will be shown.
