We're throwing it back to some of our favorite furry visitors! 🐶

Our Canopy clinics have had the opportunity to welcome these sweet dogs, and our learners had such a wonderful time spending time with them. From gentle pets and cuddles to simply being around a calm and friendly companion, these visits created some pretty special moments. 🥰

Learning Through Play! 💙

What better way to practice communication and problem-solving than with a brand-new, super challenging game of UNO?

Games provide so many natural opportunities for children to practice asking questions, speaking up when they don't understand something, asking for clarification, taking turns, and communicating with others.

Pairing (also known as building rapport) is the process of establishing yourself as a source of reinforcement with a learner!

When you connect yourself with activities, items, and experiences that a child enjoys, the child is more likely to want to interact and spend time with you.

During the initial pairing process, it is important to minimize or avoid placing demands on the child. Instead, allow the child to take the lead, follow their interests, and participate alongside them.

When you pair with a child, you may see:

- Increased cooperation and willingness to participate in new or less-preferred activities
- A decrease in challenging or problem behavior

💙 Activity Spotlight: What Makes a Good Friend? 💙

In one of our recent activities, our learners explored the importance of empathy and friendship through a fun, hands-on craft! Together, we talked about the qualities that make a good friend, such as being kind, caring, helpful, a good listener, and sharing with others.

Activities like these provide opportunities to practice important social skills, including:
✨ Perspective-taking
🤝 Identifying positive friendship qualities
💬 Communication and conversation
🎨 Creativity and self-expression
❤️ Building empathy and kindness
