Before we say goodbye to August, let's look back two weeks to when Chicago Bears Chairman George McCaskey visited our districtwide Institute Day.

He got our staff fired up for the year ahead by sharing the origin of Ben Johnson's adoption of the Bears' motto, "good, better, best." Contrary to what some may assume, the phrase comes from Johnson's high school football coach, highlighting the impact staff members can have on their students.

Thank you to the Chicago Bears for helping us start the year off right!

Today, we welcomed new staff members to the district and prepared them for the exciting year ahead. Welcome to the D113 family! We're so glad you're here and look forward to what's in store.

Planning to use district transportation this school year? Be sure to complete your required Annual Information Update by Wednesday, July 29, as transportation selection is part of this process.

The Annual Information Update also includes:

-Updating student and household information
-Verifying emergency contacts
-Uploading identification
-Completing required acknowledgments
-Setting your directory information preferences

A primary household parent/guardian can complete the update by logging into Campus Portal, clicking “More” and selecting “Annual Information Update.”

Schools may begin releasing directory information as early as July 30, so please complete the update by the deadline.

This weekend brought together alumni from both Highland Park High School and Deerfield High School for a memorable conversation.

HPHS alumni Gary Sinise and Jeff Perry were interviewed by DHS alum Geoffrey Baer of WTTW for a documentary on Chicago's North Suburbs.

Gary and Jeff reflected on their time in Highland Park's theater program and how it ultimately led to the founding of Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Geoffrey also shared his memories of watching the duo's school productions while he was a student at Deerfield.

The morning that the three shared highlighted the lasting connections among District 113 alumni.

Congratulations to the DHS INCubator program for achieving a top-10 placement in the INCubatorEDU National Pitch competition for the fifth consecutive year! Team FunShine, made up of students Katya Dikin, Maya Medina, Haylie Goynshor and Ellie Karner, worked incredibly hard on their business pitch to get this far. Well done to the four students, and thank you to the staff who supported them along the way!
