As we head into the 2026-2027 school year, we'll be making posts to introduce our new staff members to our community. Please join us in welcoming a familiar face to a new position - Mr. John Doyle will be shifting from HS Special Education to MS/HS Agricultural Science this year!

As a graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, Mr. Doyle brings hands-on experience from working on a dairy farm and a strong passion for agricultural advocacy. He is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for agriculture with students. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Doyle enjoys working with chickens (he personally has 18), spending time outdoors, and gardening. One of his most favorite crops, which has many purposes, is the sunflower. He enjoys spending time with his pets: a rabbit, two Labrador Retrievers, and three cats.

As we head into the 2026-2027 school year, we'll be making posts to introduce our new staff members to our community. Please join us in welcoming back Ms. Jo Freye! She'll be joining our awesome DES 4th grade team this year! After being part of the DCSD family since 2023, she is beyond excited to officially have a classroom of her own!

While her last name is Freye, she’s proudly known by her students and school community as Ms. Jo! Over the past two years, she has had the incredible opportunity to serve as a district substitute, working alongside so many amazing students, teachers, staff, and families. She is truly grateful for the warm, supportive community that has welcomed her, encouraged her, and allowed her to learn and grow along the way. She can’t wait to build meaningful relationships with her students, create a classroom full of laughter and learning, and make memories that will last far beyond the school year. Ms. Jo is looking forward to all the adventures and everyday moments that make teaching so special. She’s ready to have fun with her students!

As we head into the 2026-2027 school year, we'll be making posts to introduce our new staff members to our community. Please join us in welcoming a familiar face to a new position - Mr. Tom Kalhagen will be shifting from HS Social Studies to fill the role of our District Student and Family Resource Liaison!

For the last three years, Mr. Kalhagen has been a social studies teacher at Deerfield High School, but he is excited to be moving into this new role within the district. A resident of Sun Prairie, he enjoys evening cruises on his 1978 motorcycle, listening to rock n roll, restoring antique furniture, and collecting all sorts of vintage items. He looks forward to continuing to work closely with our community.

As we head into the 2026-2027 school year, we'll be making posts to introduce our new staff members to our community. Please join us in welcoming a familiar face to a new position - Mr. Marcus Novak will be shifting from HS Social Studies to MS/HS Business this year!

Mr. Novak graduated with his bachelor's degree from Ripon College in 2004. He did his student teaching here at Deerfield and also at Indian Mound Middle School in McFarland. He previously taught at Johnson Creek for over 15 years before coming to Deerfield in February of 2022. He moved with his wife Erin to Deerfield in 2007 and has since welcomed two children to his family, Peyton (11th grade) and Beckett (6th grade).

He is currently the head coach for the high school softball program...GO DEMONS! He also runs the Demon Legion club. Deerfield is his home and he hopes to build successful programs in both. He is extremely excited to be a part of the Demon family and continue the dominance of his mentor group in the Mentor Mania games!

As we head into the 2026-2027 school year, we'll be making posts to introduce our new staff members to our community. Please join us in welcoming Ms. Bekah Lennberg to our DHS Special Education team!!

Ms. Lennberg is looking forward to her first year as a Special Education teacher at Deerfield High School. She is originally from Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, and is a recent graduate of UW-Eau Claire. She grew up spending lots of time outside, dancing, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. She currently still lives in Cottage Grove, but is super excited to be joining and exploring this amazing community!

As we head into the 2026-2027 school year, we'll be making posts to introduce our new staff members to our community. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Emily Brunschon to the DHS Social Studies department!

Mrs. Brunschon is excited to join the team at Deerfield High School as a new social studies teacher. While originally from Illinois, she fell in love with Wisconsin after attending UW-Oshkosh. After completing her graduate degree at UW-Eau Claire, she worked at the local school district before deciding to go back to school to acquire her teaching license. Having recently moved to southern Wisconsin, she hopes to grow roots and connection in the community. Outside of school, Mrs. Brunschon enjoys reading, (attempting) woodworking, video games, being outside, and snuggling with her cats. She is looking forward to meeting everyone!

As we head into the 2026-2027 school year, we'll be making posts to introduce our new staff members to our community. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Taya Larson - our new Deerfield Middle and High School Choral Director!! She got an early start with our students - and already has 3 weeks of summer musical camp under her belt!

Mrs. Larson is excited to join us as the new MS/HS Choral Director. She will be starting her 25th year as a teacher and has previously taught in the Albany School District and Pardeeville School District. Outside of school, Mrs. Larson likes to travel with her family, attend concerts and golf, on occasion. She is looking forward to getting to know all of the students and families in the community. She has heard great things about the music program, and has worked alongside of it for years, but now she is honored to be a part of it!
