We could not be more thrilled to announce that The Experimentory will be returning in person in 2022!! We can't wait to welcome students back to Deerfield Academy for what is sure to be an incredible summer! Stayed tuned over the next several days as we share some of our favorites aspects of The Experimentory and open our 2022 application very soon!

Students will be joining PERISCOPE from time zones around the world and with a variety of scheduling constraints. The program is intentionally designed with the flexibility to accommodate different schedules. Students can anticipate approximately 6 to 10 hours per week of synchronous activities, and many of those can be coordinated around personal scheduling constraints. Students can also anticipate approximately 4 to 8 hours per week of asynchronous work that can be completed on their own schedule.

Students will engage in a variety of different types of learning mediums throughout the program. Synchronous time will include small group time, live instruction, 1:1 meetings with Deerfield faculty, and group collaboration with classmates. Asynchronous time will include independent coursework, field studies, and opportunities for students to explore their personal passions and interests.

A periscope is defined as “an optical device most commonly used for making observations from a concealed or protected location or where an obstacle prevents normal line of sight.” We think this is a great theme for our virtual program after a year of obstacles and challenges we have all had to overcome. Although our community will not physically be together this summer, we will still learn and grow together as we make deeper observations about ourselves and the world around us.

Apply to Deerfield Academy's virtual summer program for rising 7th, 8th, or 9th graders!! Summer 2021 Application is live☀️

"The Experimentory: PERISCOPE (our virtual summer program) is a fantastic opportunity for students entering seventh, eighth, or ninth grade to experience Deerfield Academy from wherever they are in the world! This summer, PERISCOPE will allow students to delve into project-based creative learning, focusing on collaboration, communication, fostering creativity, building character, and developing a global outlook."

On a weekly basis, students will meet one-on-one with their advisor and teachers— creating a learning experience tailored to each individual student.

The season of December into January can be filled with fun, faith, wonder, family, big meals, celebration, rest, reflection, and setting goals for the new year. Whatever mix of these you enjoy over the next few weeks, all of us at the Experimentory wish you well!

This final weeks of the year always brings a bump in our application submissions. Many of our middle school students find their winter holiday break to be a great time to work on their application!

This is especially true for domestic students applying for Financial Aid. Any student applying for aid must have their paperwork in by Feb 1 in order to be considered. Today's blog post is about how that process works. Read it and start your application today!

As an added bonus, we be giving all first time Experimentory students who apply before January 5 a free Experimentory Frisbee if they are admitted.
