The mission of Girls Incorporated® of Long Island is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. We provide school and community-based programming that serves the unique needs of girls, ages 5-18, living in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Through community partnerships, we help girls to achieve their full potential making their future brighter. Girls Incorporated® of Long Island is dedicated t

o the advocacy of gender equity for all girls in all areas of their lives. Through participation in our programs, girls learn the skills to become leaders in their communities, leading to exponential change. Our programs are available to schools and youth organizations to help girls confront subtle social messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives. Email our Program Manager, Sunita Mahtani at [email protected] to find out more about bringing programs to your school or organization. Economic Literacy guides girls to learn to manage money, invest, and begin to develop an appreciation for global economics. Girls Inc. Leadership and Community Action is designed to teach girls to build their leadership skills and create lasting social change through community action projects. Friendly PEERsuasion is a curriculum targeting girls 11-14 designed to assist them in the development of skills to resist pressure to use harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco, household chemicals, and other drugs. Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy Girls acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to take charge of and to make informed, thoughtful decisions about their sexual health. Operation SMART is a curriculum where girls develop enthusiasm for and skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) teaches girls to increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women. MIND+BODY Initiative® is a curriculum that supports and promotes the whole health of girls ages 5/6 to 18, using a philosophy which recognizes that many factors, including physical and mental wellness, contribute to girls’ health. The initiative focuses on physical activity, body image, nutrition, and stress management. Media Literacy teaches girls to increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women. They learn to analyze what they see and hear in the media and advocate for change in entertainment, news, and advertising. As girls create media that are more realistic and reflective of their lives, they learn about careers and the positive use of media. Project BOLD® Girls learn skills and strategies to lead safer lives in their homes, in relationships, in their communities, and online. Girls learn specific self-defense techniques and how to seek out and talk to caring adults about personal violence. Older girls also take on a community action project to advocate for a safer world for all women and girls. All our programs have the flexibility to be offered over the course of the school year, a few sessions, or in a one-time session. We work with our collaborating partners to tailor each program to your needs and community.

Gloria Steinem used her voice to advocate for equality, human rights, women’s rights, and a better future for generations to come.

This year, we see that same spirit of advocacy in our Bold Future Leaders.

In our Suffolk County program, our teens created mental health advocacy projects connecting their peers with resources on school stress and domestic violence.

From one generation of changemakers to the next, every voice has the power to create change. ✨
