Great article by Kate Denning at the Carolina Public Press! We had a great conversation about the importance of building relationships with students, and how the microschool approach achieves that.

At least 40 microschools were operating across NC last year with more on the way. The model blends aspects of private schools and homeschools.

Hey everyone! I’m Margo, the founder of SELAH Institute — a nonprofit private high school launching August 2026 here in Lenoir County, NC! 🎉

I’m a National Board Certified Teacher with a master’s degree and five years of classroom experience. Starting this school has grown out of my love for education, agriculture, and helping young people grow as leaders in their communities.

Our students lead their own learning through real-world projects, leadership development, community service, and experiential learning. From building business plans to earning industry certifications, students at SELAH don’t just study— they create.

After years of vision and preparation, it’s finally happening. I’m beyond excited to open our doors this fall and welcome students ready to grow, lead, and thrive.
