Dedham Country Day School Independent Day School, Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 8 At Dedham Country Day School, balance matters—in learning and life.

Academic challenge is combined with support, and strong scholastics are paired with outstanding arts and athletics to create a program that is balanced and whole. DCD places a premium on both academic and emotional intelligence. Children learn who they are as individuals and how to be part of something bigger. Acceptance is a given, and children find encouragement in every connection they make. It’s a community that nurtures, nudges, and gives. That's how children grow "whole"—and into adults who will thrive with the intellectual and emotional capacity to enjoy meaningful lives. Visit DCD’s 17-acre campus and you’ll get an immediate sense of how children learn to think creatively and critically. From Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8, you’ll witness students tackling hands-on projects, collaborating, taking risks, solving problems—and, most of all, experiencing joy in learning.

Last week, Ms. Kaelin’s Grade 3 Science class became a buzzing, fluttering, wing-flapping wonderland as students stepped into the shoes of pollinators for a hands-on science adventure! The fun began by making handmade “pollinators”, and then our young scientists flew from flower to flower, gathering and spreading “pollen”—a mix of cornmeal and coffee grounds—to simulate how real pollinators help plants grow. Each student received their own cup of pollen and discovered firsthand that pollen varies in size and texture. As they visited each flower, they observed how pollen sticks and transfers, and they learned how bees use special “pollen baskets” to hold the pollen and carry it back to their nests!

🎉 Congratulations to our 26–27 Grade 8 Student Ambassadors!
Our Student Ambassadors are leaders in action, proudly representing our school and sharing their personal DCD journeys with visiting families and prospective students on campus tours. Selected through a thoughtful process that includes individual interviews and collaborative work to establish shared values, these students embrace the responsibility and honor of being school ambassadors. Beyond their tour duties, they look for creative ways to strengthen connections across our community, bringing our Lower and Middle School students closer together. We’re so proud of these student leaders and the positive impact they make! 🎉

We had a very special guest on campus this week: Hank, a therapy dog, who belongs to the family of third grader Mimi! Hank kicked off his visit with our Kindergarteners, who got to ask his handler and current DCD parent, Lisa M. thoughtful questions before giving him lots of gentle pets. He then trotted over to the Middle School to visit Señora Andrade-de León's advisory group, showing off some impressive tricks and getting showered with love and treats!

Earlier this week, DCD’s 8th Grade History classes visited the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate for a hands-on Senate Immersion experience! Students stepped into the roles of U.S. Senators, examining election reform and taking part in the legislative process as they worked to pass a reform bill. They examined important legislative issues, practiced effective lawmaking, and learned the value of productive civic dialogue.
