💙 We are saddened to hear of Earl Henry's passing.

🚐 It’s no coincidence that the name EARL travels Northeast Iowa's roads every day. For many years, Earl Henry dedicated himself to building and strengthening NEICAC’s public transportation program. Earl’s leadership and belief in connecting people to their communities left a lasting impact on NEICAC Transit. Today, it seems especially fitting that the name EARL travels the roads of Northeast Iowa every day, carrying forward the kind of service he worked so hard to build.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Earl’s family, friends, former coworkers, and all who knew him.

Thank you, Earl, for a legacy that keeps moving! ❤️ 🛣️

It's Head Start Awareness Month!

This month, we're celebrating Head Start Awareness Month and recognizing the importance of access to the early learning, health, and family support services provided through Early Head Start and Head Start that help children thrive and strengthen communities nationwide!

We’re celebrating Iowa’s dedicated Head Start staff and families! Head Start prepares children for kindergarten and lifelong success while strengthening families and empowering parents.
🌟 Did you know?
❤️ 14 of Iowa’s Community Action Agencies provide Head Start services to children and families!
👶 Head Start and Early Head Start serve pregnant women and children from birth to age 5.
🏫 Iowa had 6,534 funded Head Start and Early Head Start slots in FY25.
👏 Iowa’s programs employed 2,487 staff members
🎓 5,370 parents were able to work, attend school, or participate in job training.
Head Start brings together early learning, health, nutrition, family support, and parent engagement. Thank you to everyone who helps Iowa’s children and families thrive! 🎊💙

Lilia Tinderholt, Early Head Start Home Visitor, wrapped up her impressive 24-year career at NEICAC yesterday.

Over the past 24 years, Lilia has supported pregnant women and families with children up to age three through weekly home visits. Her dedication to helping parents recognize the beauty of being their child's first and most important teacher has led to healthier children, stronger families, and positive outcomes time and time again.

Thank you, Lilia, for devoting your career to helping people and changing lives. 💜

🍂 LIHEAP APPLICATIONS OPEN TODAY! 🍂
Beginning October 1, NEICAC is accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for households that meet one of the following conditions:
✅ A household member is age 60 or older
✅ A household member has a disability
✅ The household has received a written disconnection notice from a heat or electric provider
✅ The household's heat or electric service is currently disconnected

LIHEAP helps eligible households with a portion of their home heating costs during the winter months, helping families stay safe and warm while reducing energy burden.

Our staff can assist you with the application process by phone, email, online chat, or in person throughout October. The online application option will open in November. Appointments are required to apply.

📊 Here's a snapshot of just some of the work happening through NEICAC programs:

🏡 Weatherization invested $107,000 in home energy-efficiency improvements, helping local families reduce energy loss and improve comfort.

🥫 Our food pantries served 692 households, supported 2,865 visits, and distributed 171,411 pounds of food and household essentials over the past year.

🚍 Between June and August, NEICAC Transit provided 12,523 rides, welcomed 133 new riders, and traveled 145,293 miles connecting people to jobs, healthcare, shopping, and other essential destinations.

🌱 Thrive Iowa continues to grow, currently serving 28 participants in Fayette County and 15 participants in Clayton County.

📈 Through FaDSS, families achieved meaningful outcomes, including an increase in employment from 29% to 46%, while many participants also improved housing stability, housing conditions, and transportation access.
