Millikin University Millikin is a private university in Decatur, Illinois, and a leader in Performance Learning. Internships. Co-teaching. Student-run businesses. Presentations.

When James Millikin founded the university more than 110 years ago, he did so based upon the idea of combining theory and practice. While this was a radical idea at the time, today, we know that practice is not enough. Today's students must perform their knowledge in order to be truly prepared for life after college. Market research. You name it; our students are finding new ways to live out their learning and reap the rewards of their hard work. The result – Millikin students graduate with experience and the confidence to succeed. In 2015, 99% of our students went on to find jobs or pursued a graduate degree within six months of graduation. Honoring nursing’s past and future! 🕯️🩺
Legacy of the Lamp, an annual Homecoming tradition, celebrated Millikin students preparing to lead the future of nursing and paid tribute to Florence Nightingale, who used her lamp as both a practical tool and a lasting symbol of compassion, dedication, and hope in nursing.

This year’s ceremony, held on Friday, Oct. 2, also honored the 2026 Alumnus of the Year, Kristin Bloom Pritts ’02/MSN ’07 (third image).
