Choosing Agnes Scott was never about a major for Kayla C. '28. She chose access to experiences that would shape her future.

A sophomore math and economics major, Kayla says programs like Summit and SCALE were the deciding factor in her college search.

“When it came to Journeys, SCALE and Summit, that’s the reason I chose Agnes Scott,” she shared.

During SCALE, Kayla spent the week at Microsoft, her top-choice placement, where she gained an inside look at the corporate world and the skills needed to succeed in it.

Going in, she expected a more passive experience, but found the opposite.

“It was very interactive. We weren’t just sitting at a table, listening; we were connecting, asking questions and learning directly from professionals.”

Through those connections, Kayla gained insight and confidence.

“I used to have a hard time speaking to people in higher roles,” she said. “But being there showed me you can talk to anyone. That really helped me break out of my shell.”

Her experience also reshaped how she’s thinking about her future.

While she entered SCALE expecting to focus on technical, behind-the-scenes work, she left with a new perspective that prioritizes collaboration, communication and impact.

“I want to do something more people-focused and make a broader impact,” she said.

SCALE also gave her a clearer understanding of emerging tools like AI and how they’re being used responsibly in the workplace, knowledge she now sees as essential for her future career.

More than anything, Kayla says the experience gave her clarity and preparation.

“It’s like a window into the corporate world,” she explained. “You can see what’s ahead and start preparing for it now.”

That kind of early exposure is what continues to set Agnes Scott apart.

“There aren’t many opportunities where you can connect with so many professionals in a space you see yourself in,” she said. “Networking opens doors you didn’t even know were there.”

For Kayla, being a Scottie means academic success and being prepared for anything.

“It’s being able to specialize in your field, but also connect across disciplines and communicate with anyone.”
