Yesterday, School of Education faculty and staff welcomed our new fall 2026 Elementary Education freshmen. We are excited to start the semester with this great group of future educators!

Interested in becoming a teacher? The School of Education will hold its Tomorrow's Teachers Conference on Monday, October 19 for high school juniors and seniors. Students can spend the day attending sessions and panels that showcase the latest in teacher education and innovative instruction.

This week, Dr. Lauritzen has been teaching a professional development series to DPS #61 teachers focused on Next Generation Science Standards. Teachers have been getting hands-on practice in teaching science investigations and classroom management. Today, DPS Superintendent Dr. Nicole Nash Moody and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Dr. Nicole Couri-Malson came in to visit our training and to speak with the teachers about their experiences teaching science. It’s been a fantastic learning opportunity for everyone!

Our final July O&R Elementary Education group joined us last Thursday. We are excited to see everyone back when school starts in August!

The July wave of incoming students attending an Orientation and Registration (O&R) Day is officially underway. On Monday, the School of Education was proud to welcome even more Elementary Education majors to campus! Go Big Blue!

Elementary Education major Lucy Rauch had a great time this year teaching second grade math lessons and more at Sangamon Valley Primary School.

Throughout this summer, we will be welcoming our new Big Blue education majors to campus for orientation and registration. Pictured is the first group of first-year ELED majors, welcome to the Big Blue School of Education! We look forward to welcoming even more of our education majors at future orientation and registration days this summer. Additionally, we'd like to give a special shout-out to Dr. Lauritzen for all of her work in assisting our new students with registration and academic advising!
