From school counselor to Food Network competitor — Bro. Justin Rowland (Gamma Mu ’16) turned a love for cooking into a national spotlight!

RePost: "Three years ago, I started posting food videos with no idea where this journey would take me. I never imagined it would lead to opportunities like this, meeting incredible people, and inspiring others through something I genuinely love to do.

About four months ago, I was blessed with the opportunity of a lifetime. I was flown out to Los Angeles to compete on ’s newest show, 100 Cooks, also on hosted by with and as judges. Competing against 99 other talented home cooks from across America was an experience I’ll never forget.

And somehow… I ended up being Contestant #1 🔥

At the end of the day, I’m still just a full-time school counselor who loves to cook. I never truly felt like I fit into one lane growing up, and that’s a big reason why I do what I do now. I want my students and younger people watching me to understand that you can create your own path, be yourself, and turn your passion into something bigger than you ever imagined.

This is a HUGE accomplishment for me, and I truly appreciate every single person who has supported me along the way. From the messages, the comments, my family, my students, people back home, and even the random people who stop me in public to show love and last but NEVER least GOD !!!— thank you. You all keep me motivated more than you know.

Make sure y’all tune into on June 7th at 9PM EST to watch 100 Cooks! 🔥

I’ll also be in Chicago for the watch party, so if you’re pulling up, let’s make it a movie 🍿"

It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Brother, Bro. Donovan Christopher Johnson, Sr. (ΛΖ ‘23).

Bro. Johnson, a former University of Virginia student athlete, fought a courageous and inspiring battle against an aggressive form of leukemia. Through every challenge, he demonstrated extraordinary strength, resilience, and grace that inspired all who stood beside him throughout his journey.

Bro. Johnson was a devoted father, son, teammate, friend, and Brother whose presence brought light, encouragement, and genuine love to those around him. His courage in the face of adversity reflected the very spirit of Perseverance that our Fraternity holds dear.

His family shared these heartfelt words:

“Don fought until his very last breath with so much strength and courage. Thank you to everyone who prayed, supported, checked in, and stood beside us throughout this journey. Your love meant everything.”

We extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Bro. Donovan Christopher Johnson, Sr., and we lift up the Brothers of the Lambda Zeta Chapter at the University of Virginia during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest peacefully, Brother. You will be missed dearly. 🕊️💜💛

Here are the facts on what the NAACP is asking for.

Bro. Derrick Johnson stopped by Bro. Rickey Smiley’s morning show to discuss the NAACP’s campaign, which calls on Black athletes, families, alumni, fans, and allies to withhold athletic and financial support from public universities in Southern states where the organization says Black voting power is being weakened.

The message: No Representation. No Recruitment. No Revenue.
