What starts as curiosity can become a life changing experience.
Kay, a freshman at Academe of the Oaks, will spend part of sophomore year in Geneva through Academe’s international exchange program. Drawn to language and linguistics, Kay chose a French speaking region as an opportunity to grow through immersion, independence, and cultural experience.
“At first, I didn’t want to do exchange because I thought it would be too complicated. But I decided that I did want to do it because it’s really a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
At Academe, students are encouraged to step beyond their comfort zones, explore the world directly, and discover new perspectives through experience.
Academe of The Oaks
Academe of the Oaks is a Waldorf informed, college preparatory high school in Decatur, GA. Academe of the Oaks offers ninth through twelfth grades.
Small classes, thoughtful teaching, and a student centered approach that prepares teens for college and life. Instead of relying on textbooks, students learn from direct experiences, whether of the original writings of great thinkers, scientists, and leaders, or through hands-on experiments and projects. An Academe education is the difference between memorization and thoughtful consideration. The

It is no small task to put on a play in only three weeks. Our seniors demonstrated their acting skills with a wonderful performance of Uncle Vanya this past Friday and Saturday.
From rehearsals and set preparation to final performances on stage, students dedicated themselves fully to the production process.
Thank you to the seniors and Dr. Alldritt for this beautiful gift to the Academe community, and to Mr. Painter Hayes for his support of the production.

A great photo from a great season.
Congratulations again to our Ultimate Frisbee players and Coach Alan Reeves on an outstanding year. We are proud of the teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship our students showed throughout the season and during the girls’ second place state finish.
The teachers and even our favorite skeleton are helping spread the word.

Congratulations on a successful season, Firebirds!
The girls’ team finished second in the State after an impressive tournament run. They defeated Maynard Jackson 13-1 in the quarterfinals and Midtown High School 11-6 in the semifinals before facing Paideia in the finals.
The boys’ team showed determination throughout the tournament, finishing 9th in the Varsity division while competing against larger programs and managing a limited roster.
It was a great season for both teams.
Thank you to Coach Alan Reeves for his leadership and commitment to the program. We also thank assistant coaches Malcom Reeves and Richard Whitcomb, and for her support as team parent.

On Saturday, April 25, Academe junior Nathaniel Jackson joined finalists from the Atlanta Urban Debate League at the Annual John R. Lewis Argumentative Speech Bowl Showcase at Emory University.
Students were challenged to deliver persuasive speeches supported by evidence and focused on improving public policy in arts and culture, transportation, or education.
Nathaniel chose to address arts and culture, speaking to the importance of creativity and connection in today’s world.
“Culture and the Arts have this importance in modern society because they are capable of promoting both individuality and solidarity at once, ultimately helping people express who they are while also strengthening the communities they belong to.”
We are proud to see our students using their voices, critical thinking, and leadership to engage with the issues shaping society.
Behind the scenes of science and outdoor learning at Academe of the Oaks.
Guided by Dr. Shartouny, students regularly engage with the natural world through observation, fieldwork, and hands on exploration. Next month, that spirit of learning in action will continue as our science community helps create a turtle sanctuary on campus in partnership with The Amphibian Foundation
The sanctuary will provide a safe home for turtles that cannot be released into the wild, while giving students the opportunity to participate in environmental stewardship and habitat building.
At Academe, education reaches beyond the classroom and into the world around us.
At Academe of the Oaks, global learning begins early. These freshmen have already applied for next year’s international exchange program, with plans to study abroad during their sophomore year.
Starting in 10th grade, students have the opportunity to live in another country, experience daily life through a new lens, and grow in confidence and independence. It is one of the many ways Academe encourages students to see themselves as part of a larger world.
