Debra Celeste Vickers York passed away Jan. 5, 2026, according to her sister Mary Jane Capron.
Mary Jane says Debra, who had experienced ill health for some years, started feeling worse on Christmas Day and entered the hospital. Mary Jane was with Debra when she passed away.
Debra was a widow (David). They have one child, Kaitlin, of Colorado.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
Debra passed just 3 weeks after their sister Verita (ViVi) Leigh Vickers Driskell of Miramar Beach, Fla.
Vivi died after developing a brief but rapid invasion of cancer. She is survived by her husand Charlie Driskell, son Chris (Eliabeth), granddaughter Elyta Rose Driskell, and son Steve Driskell.
(I was not close friends with Debra, although we did grow up together in Central Methodist's Sunday school class. Mike Wahl was scoutmaster and assistant scoutmater for ViVi's sons' troop.)

In concert with the scholarship party/fundraiser this weekend, Decatur High School staff has offered to conduct a tour of the high school for anyone who is interested. The tour will begin at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 4th. The place to meet is in front of the school’s main office entrance, 901 Somerville Rd SE. No reservation or RSVP is required, just show up. Park anywhere in the school parking lot near the entrance. This is the parking lot on the NE corner of Somerville Rd and Red Raider Drive and is immediately in front of the main office of the school.
