🌹 Honoring Jessye Norman 🌹
Today, we celebrate what would have been the 80th birthday of the legendary Jessye Norman — one of the world’s greatest opera singers and cultural icons. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Ms. Norman rose from a small Southern community to the grandest stages across the globe, captivating audiences with her extraordinary voice, grace, and power.She was more than a performer.
Jessye Norman was a trailblazer — a Black woman commanding opera houses in an era when few looked like her on those stages. She broke barriers, uplifted others, and used her platform to give back.One of her greatest gifts was her commitment to young people. From her vision came the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, a tuition-free program ensuring that children, no matter their background, could experience the life-changing power of the arts.
