Global Village Project Reactivating the education of refugee girls. Global Village Project (GVP) is a special purpose middle school located in Decatur, Georgia.

Our mission is to reactivate the schooling of refugee girls so that they can access all the benefits of a holistic education. Our program is designed specifically to equip recently arrived refugee girls with the academic and social knowledge and skills needed for successful study in a high school and beyond. Many of our students have experienced interruptions and gaps in their formal education and

come with limited print literacy experiences. Some are newcomers to school and have had no formal educational experiences. GVP is a tuition-free school, which is funded by the generosity of donors. We are a registered 501(c)(3). For more information, visit our website.

It takes a village. 💜💛🩷🩵💚

This summer, ours showed up, again and again. Volunteers and community partners gave their time, their muscle, and their hearts to help turn empty rooms into a home for learning at Global Village Project.

Boxes were unpacked. Shelves were filled. Classrooms and a brand‑new library came to life. And through all of it, one thing was clear: when people show up for our girls, anything is possible.

To every volunteer who lifted a box, assembled a shelf, or simply believed in this work: thank you. Together, you helped create a place where refugee girls will learn, grow, and belong. 🌍

We're back to school, and this year feels extra special, because we're starting it at our brand-new campus! 🧡

To kick off the year, we're proud to partner with the Atlanta Dream and Albert, two teams that share our belief in investing in girls and giving every student a fair shot.

Together, they welcomed our girls with a "Back to School '26" celebration built just for them: a hands-on basketball clinic with the Atlanta Dream — drills, dribbling, and a whole lot of laughing — followed by a back-to-school shopping experience powered by Albert, where each student picked out the supplies and gear they need for the year ahead.

When a community decides no girl gets left behind, she becomes unstoppable.

When Hasna arrived in the U.S. from Myanmar as a teenager, she was stepping into an unfamiliar world. As a student at Global Village Project, she found encouragement, belonging, and the confidence to begin building a new future.

Today, she serves as Front Desk Coordinator at Ethnē Health, where she’s often the very first face patients see — welcoming families from across Clarkston with warmth and care.

Her journey is a reminder of why this work matters: yesterday’s students become today’s healthcare professionals, neighbors, and community leaders.

Glory arrived from Myanmar at 13. Today she's a Dental Assistant at Ethnē Dental in Clarkston, serving the neighbors she grew up alongside.

We may be moving, but we know where our roots are.

Seventeen years ago, Global Village Project began as a simple idea: that refugee girls deserved a school designed just for them. But an idea, like a seed, needs somewhere to be planted. Decatur Presbyterian Churchopened their doors and invited us to plant it right here, on the second floor.

It found fertile soil. For 17 years, hundreds of girls from all over the world climbed those stairs. In these classrooms they learned English, math, science, and art. They also learned that they are welcome, that they belong, and that they are part of a powerful community.

As we’re settling into our new school home, the goodbye to DPC was a bittersweet one. We will miss the sound of the girls in the hallways, the familiar walk down Church Street, and the neighbors who welcomed us every single day for nearly two decades.

Thank you, Decatur Presbyterian Church, for giving our village its first home. 🤍

From GVP classrooms to Dentistry that serves with dignity. 🤍

When refugee girls are given the opportunity to learn, belong, and grow, the impact reaches far beyond the classroom. Years later, GVP alumnae Hasna, Glory, and Foziya found their careers—and their calling—at , a community clinic serving the heart of Clarkston.

Today, they welcome refugee and immigrant patients with compassion, cultural understanding, and their lived experience, helping others feel truly seen. Their journey is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of education and the doors it can open.

Every June 20, we honor the millions of people forced to flee their homes in search of safety. This year, that feels more urgent than ever.

This World Refugee Day, UNHCR reminds us that safety is a shared responsibility: "Until everyone is safe, we show up."

Showing up is what our girls do every single day, girls who crossed borders, rebuilt their lives, and walked through our doors ready to learn. And it's what we promise to do right back.

We stand with every person searching for safety. And we will keep showing up.

We have the most exciting news to finally share with you: Global Village Project has officially reached our $8 million Capital Campaign goal for New Village campus! ✨💜🩵💛💚🩷

With full hearts, we are overwhelmed with gratitude as we celebrate this incredible milestone alongside the community that made it possible.

After 17 years inside the halls of Decatur Presbyterian Church and a powerful Capital Campaign fueled by a Village of supporters, GVP is preparing to move into a new school intentionally designed for refugee girls: a space created for learning, belonging, healing, and opportunity. Designed by Ezekiel Architects and renovated by SG Contracting, our new campus was built with care, intention, and love for our girls.

This milestone was made possible by an extraordinary community of donors, partners, volunteers, families, mentors, advocates, and friends who believed in our students and in what’s possible when refugee girls are given the opportunity to change their future.
