"I'll get to it when things settle down."

I have said this sentence about approximately forty things in my career, and I want to report back on how it went.

It never settled down. Not once. Not one single year.

What actually happens is that the version of me with margin in October never showed up. Not one year. She's a story August tells itself so it doesn't have to decide anything today.

Which is the whole argument for building your support now, while it still feels slightly premature.

It's Sunday evening, which in a teacher's house is its own particular feeling.

I'm not going to sell to you sideways tonight, so here it is straight.

TeachConnect BELIEVE is $99 a month. That's real money. For a lot of teachers it's the third or fourth thing coming out of a paycheck that already bought classroom supplies nobody reimbursed.

The worst part of a lesson going badly was never the lesson. For me it was Sunday.

Sunday is when I'd sit down and try to fix it : alone, from memory, with no real idea which part had gone wrong. I'd rebuild the activity. It would go badly again. I'd rebuild something else.

I lost a lot of Sundays that way to problems a second set of eyes would have named in ten minutes.

That's the real cost of doing this alone, and it's much higher than people think when they say they don't have time.
