What would you tell students in schools where your books and others are being pulled from the shelves?

You know, the first thing I tell students is to always be interested in and question why people are afraid of things. Like, usually the things that everybody’s afraid of are things that we probably need the most, you know, when it comes to information, when it comes to books being banned, censored, and challenged.
Don’t let the fear and the insecurity of adults get in the way of your edification. Don’t let the fear and the insecurity of adults get in the way of your fortification, right, of who you will become.

Our Wrapped Up in Reading 2023 book list is now available!

The summer reading program provides suggestions for great books related to our collections and exhibitions and rewards children for reading them. Children who read 5 books from the book list and return their completed reading diary, signed by a guardian to the museum by September 1, will receive prizes and free admission to the Carlos!

Looking for books on the list? Books that are still in print can be purchased in our museum bookshop or online. We recommend the non-profit e-commerce site, bookshop.org. Create an account tied to the Carlos Museum Bookshop, and all of your purchases will benefit the museum!

Books from the Wrapped Up In Reading book list are also available at many libraries in Georgia, thanks to the museum's partnership with the Georgia Public Library Service.
