After an unforgettable first edition, Evento Afro returns to Atlanta bigger, bolder, and deeply committed to celebrating the roots and futures of Afro-diasporic arts.

This event is about building bridges and deepening connections within Atlanta’s Afro-diasporic community. By coming together to explore and learn from each other’s art forms and histories, we grow stronger and our practices become richer and more complete.

We honor our ancestors and the resilience that has carried our arts through generations. Each new art we engage with helps us become authentic stewards of our culture, rooted in tradition yet evolving for the future.

We are unapologetically Afro, sharing these arts in ways that are deeply connected to their history, culture, and spirit. Our unity is our strength, bringing knowledge, empowerment, and joy.

Join us for four days of immersive experiences and cultural moments that bring the Afro-diaspora to life in its most authentic and powerful form. Evento Afro is more than an event. It is a movement to come together, learn, and grow as one.

Each evening from Wednesday, September 10 – Saturday, September 13, join dynamic sessions that pair Capoeira with complementary Afro-diasporic practices:

Samba de Roda

OrixĂĄ Dance Movement

African Drumming

Breaking (B-boy/B-girl Cyphers)

and more

We’re honored to welcome an incredible lineup of artists and cultural leaders:

✹ Mestre Lobão ()
50+ years of Capoeira mastery; co-founder of Besouro MangangĂĄ academy in SĂŁo Paulo.

✹ Contra Mestre Gugu Quilombola ()

30 Years of Legacy. A Future Full of Light. âœŠđŸŸđŸŒ

This year we celebrate 30 years of Quilombolas de Luz Capoeira — 30 years of movement, resistance, community, and culture. 🎉

We honor the vision and life of Mestre PaulĂŁo, who planted the first seeds of this family, rooted in ancestry, forged in the roda, and illuminated by the spirit of Zumbi. His legacy lives on in every ginga, every berimbau beat, and every student who walks this path.

Today, that legacy continues to grow strong here in Atlanta under the guidance of Contra Mestre Gugu, who carries the mission with heart, excellence, and purpose. The seeds being nurtured today are powerful — full of rhythm, resilience, and potential.

💬 To everyone who is part of this journey — past, present, and future — this celebration is for you. The tree is still growing, and the light is still shining.

AxĂ© to 30 years. AxĂ© to the next 30.

A ĂĄrvore continua crescendo, e a luz continua brilhando.

AxĂ© pelos 30 anos. AxĂ© pelos prĂłximos 30. âšĄïžđŸŒł
