Ever wondered what all those colorful paint lines and flags mean? 👀
They aren't random. Each color identifies a different type of underground utility, helping excavators know what's below before digging begins.
Understanding utility markings is an important part of preventing damage, protecting critical infrastructure, and keeping everyone safe.
Learn what each color represents before your next project at Sunshine811.com.

Did you know utility lines aren't always buried as deep as you might think?
Depth can vary due to erosion, landscaping, previous construction, or changes made over time. That's why you should never assume it's safe to dig based on how shallow or deep you think a utility line should be.
Always contact 811 before you dig, no matter how small the project. Once utilities have been marked, dig carefully within the tolerance zone using hand tools or other safe excavation practices.
