Sunshine 811 We coordinate the "Call 811 before you dig" process between excavators and utilities in Florida. Get involved! ➞ sunshine811.com/calendar-1 It does this by:

1.

Sunshine 811's purpose is to help make Florida the safest place to dig. Processing an excavator's dig site and contact information;
2. Sending the excavator's information to member utility companies;
3. Operating the Positive Response System, giving utilities and excavators one more way to communicate effectively; and
4 .Educating excavators on the 811 process. All the details are in the "Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act," Chapter 556, Florida Statutes. By using Sunshine 811's free service, you help prevent damage to underground utilities that can result in utility outages, injuries, death, environmental contamination, property damage, fines and high repair costs.

Meet our friends at DY Underground and learn about how the 811 process guides their work, plus the extra steps they take for safety. Thank you for being a safe digging champion!

How the 811 Process Guides Everything We Do + Our Extra Steps

At DY Underground Inc., we treat the 811 process as an essential part of planning every project; not simply as a requirement before construction begins. Before breaking ground, we confirm that the locate request is valid, review the utility markings and compare them with the proposed path of our work. Our field leaders also carefully evaluate the actual jobsite conditions because markings alone do not replace proper field observation and verification.

If markings are missing, unclear or inconsistent with the conditions we encounter onsite, we stop work and request clarification before proceeding. When private utilities may be present, we coordinate additional locating services when necessary. These steps may require additional planning, but they help protect our employees, our customers, underground facilities and the surrounding community. At DY Underground, meeting a deadline is important, but it never comes before completing the safe-digging process.
