July 2021 Update:

July is almost here and I have some info to pass along. So, that's why I'm doing it now. Hope all you dads out there had a great day this last month. Next up is the 4th of July for us, Independents Day and 1st July, Canada Day for our neighbors in Canada. Summer is officially here and the days are getting shorter for the next 6 months. This brings back the memory of Red Skelton. He did the Pledge of Allegiance and defined each word in the pledge to help a classroom of students to understand what they were making a pledge about. To help them respect the meaning of what they were saying. The Pledge of Allegiance to America to honor it. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1UCRO_enUS829US829&q=pledge+of+allgence+by+red+skelton&nfpr=1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi59sHrraTxAhWMK80KHXzWAdwQvgUoAXoECAIQMg

REMEMBER to set the second Sunday in August aside so, the 8th of August this year for the Lowrey Alumni Gathering at Ford Lanes bowling facility on Van Born in Dearborn Heights. Only $15 per person for pizza, salad and a cash bar. $15 each person, NO CHECKS, NO CREDIT and NO IOU, $15 cash for some good visiting with OLD friends and associates... Most of us were there for 3 years, 4 different classes around us, two classes ahead of us and 2 behind us. In Total of About 1500 classmates in all. How many due you remember??? How many are going to show up??? How many have passed away and no longer with us???

So far, pizza request is: Cheese, Pepperoni, Ham and Italian sausage Cheese, Ham and extra mushrooms Pepperoni and anchovies (only 1 couple).

Here's a good note from class of 67, Linda West-Knaus. Ed Gabrys, Northville's "unsung hero" as described in their June 2021, Vol. 4, Issue 6 of The Ville. You can click here to find this wonderful article detailing the many contributions made by "Northville's Most Valuable Person"! (Thanks to Chuck Fox for bringing this to our attention.)

Darryl Csicsila, (class of '65) was in the hospital with unknown internal bleeding, and probably suffering from a broken heart as he lost a daughter, Jennifer, and his wife, Barb, both within the last year. Darryl has gone back to assisted living but is now in Hospice care. So, keep Darryl in our prays.

Leonard Mishloney had his other leg removed. Leonard has developed Type 2 diabetes which is not uncommon with seniors. So, Leonard will have some major adjustments in his diet and more to make dealing with his diabetes and improve his life. Per information from Ray Gierucki (class of 66): Leonard is now at Heritage hospital in Taylor. (Beaumont, I think). It's on Telegraph in Taylor. Len is there until his new wound is healed enough to support a new prosthetic. At that time, he will once again resume his physical therapy. Len has more problems other than his diabetes. He's forgetful, has memory problems, and when he over turned his four-wheeler several months ago, he suffered brain trauma. He has difficulty hearing as well. His forgetfulness caused him to forget to taking his insulin, which, consequently resulted in this latest episode for Len. What Len needs now is for some of his "friends" to stop by and spend some time with him.

We ALL need to keep in touch with our doctors or a doctor and watch our health. As we get older, we can't keep doing things we use to do when we were younger and invincible. We have to keep up on our checkups with our doctor or a doctor. I've said it before and I'll say it again. WE ALL NEED TO DO THIS.

We all need to watch our sugar levels to watch for diabetes and have colon testing done to prevent colon cancer. Then there's that BLOOD PRESSURE. Everyone likes a little salt on their steak or a baked potato and HOW'S your blood pressure. There is so much sodium in a lot of can foods, frozen foods and prepared food we buy. Manufactures add salt to improve the taste. READ the labels for SODUIM LEVELS.

Guys, you need to watch our PSA levels for prostate cancer. Gals need to have breast exam, including a mammogram for breast cancer. Plus, checkup for cervical cancer. ALL of these have little or no symptoms till it's too LATE but they ALL have test to prevent them.

Then there's numerus vaccines out there of GREAT IMPORTANCE. JUST ABOUT every one of us have a scare on our left arm just below the shoulder. OUR SMALL POX VACCINATION which they stopped doing in the 1950's. Small Pox basically has been eradicated. Everyone remembers Polio vaccine. If I remember right the first vaccine was a shot. Then came the sugar cube, it too is basically not an issue. Call it government conspiracy or whatever you want. If you haven't had your SHINGLES VACCINE SHOT yet I PRAY YOU NEVER GET THE SHINGLES. If you had chicken pox is a kid, YOU have the shingles virus in your body. I haven't had the shingles but my better had a MILD CASE and it is something I wouldn't wish on an enemy. We both are vaccinated for the shingles. GET your vaccinations, they are important. YES, it's your choice, the flu shot you might get away with not getting a flu shot but people even die from it or it can develop into pneumonia. Then there's a vaccine for pneumonia to help us seniors too...

As my old Platoon Sargent use to say to us "A word to the wise should be sufficient". Come on people if you can make something safer or better for ourselves then why not or what about someone we love like our grandkids, why not... God love ya all and may we all live a long, safe and healthy lives. YES, IT'S YOUR CHOICE...

We lost 2 classmates to Covid – 19 that I know of, we have lost more than that of Diabetes, Breast Cancer, Colin Cancer, lung cancer (smokers maybe??) and more. Could they still be here with us if they had a checkup or done one of the different test or screening and found their issues before it became an issue?? We'll never know...

We just learned from Linda West-Knaus (class of 67) that Classmate Diane Croskey Sekely's husband, T.J., passed away on June 14th. They had been married for 49 years. You can read his obituary by clicking on this link: Theodore Sekely

June 2021 Update:

It’s June, the half way point of the year. The days are still getting longer for a while then they start getting shorter as summer arrives. The end of June and the school are out waiting for the next school year to begin come September… The nice thing is it appears the schools will be on sight, in their classrooms and not virtual.

With all the positive feedback from our classmate contact group and the timing will be good. Everyone is ready to get out and now we can visit without masks. It is set, on 8th of August this year is our Lowrey Alumni Gathering Day at Ford Lanes on Van Born Rd at 4 PM till you leave. So, if you went to Lowrey High School, come join us eat and visit with other who attended Lowrey. Be there or be square. We will have assorted types of pizza and salad with a cash bar. There will be a $15 admission per person at the door. NO checks, NO credit cards, NO IOU’s only cash, dollars. Also name tags will be available, please put your name when in school with your name now and the last year you attended. It just helps others connect who you are and which class. We don’t care if you graduated or not. Ford Lanes does have a menu that can be used if pizza doesn’t agree with you any more for a few dollars more. So, come one come all. The more the marrier, I look forward to seeing as many classmates from Lowrey High School as I can… Those who are coming give me your preferred toppings on your pizza so I can pass that info along to Ford Lanes.

We received information that Jim Shepard (class of 69) passed away the 1st of June this year. Jim was diagnosed with Dementia a year ago and now has lost his fight. His obituary in on Howe Peterson in Taylor. He was married to Judy Shepard for 38 years; they will have a memorial service later this year. Our thought and prays go out to Jim’s wife Judy, his family and friends...

From Ken and Marilyn Hughes.
