Congratulations to UM-Dearborn alumni Matthew Frank ('00 BA, CASL) and Sean Sant ('92 BBA, COB) for their recent recognition on the 2026 list of Crain's Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting, and Law. Read more about them below.
Matthew Frank handles mergers and acquisitions, aviation, real estate and corporate law. He advises privately held businesses on structuring deals, negotiating contracts and managing complex transactions, collaborating with internal and external parties to achieve strategic goals.
Sean Sant advises family-owned businesses and high-net-worth individuals on estate, retirement, financial and tax planning. He also counsels on IRS procedures and controversy, dispute resolution, entity planning, accounting methods, international structuring and other complex tax matters.

Butzel attorney and shareholder Lynn McGuire has been named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s 2026 “Influential Women of Law” list. The awards program honors women attorneys and judges for their excellent work on behalf of the justice system and for their clients, commitment to their communities and service to the profession. Honorees will be recognized during a luncheon on September 18 and profiled in a future edition of Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Kevin Stempin has recently started a new position as managing director at UHY Wealth Management. Prior to this role at UHY, Kevin was regional vice president at John Hancock Financial Services for 18 years. After his graduation from UM-Dearborn, Kevin worked as regional director of retirement plans at Voya Financial for almost 10 years. It's another and today we highlight CECS grad, Dr. Jamal Alhiyafi ('00 BS and '02 MS) for his recent professional accomplishment.
Dr. Jamal Alhiyafi has just been promoted to associate professor with tenure at Kettering University. Alhiyafi, a faculty member in Kettering University's Department of Computer Science, has developed a research portfolio spanning machine learning, data mining, artificial intelligence, and health informatics. His scholarship includes research exploring the use of machine learning and computational intelligence in medical applications.

Julia Evasic ('23 BA) has been promoted to deputy director of advance in the executive office of Governor Gretchen Whitmer. She first joined the executive office in 2022 as an advance associate and worked on the Governor’s re-election campaign. Dr. Carina Dagher Fadel was named to the Women We Admire's Top Women Leaders of Detroit list for 2026. Dr. Carina Fadel is Medical Director of the Women’s Heart Clinic at Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital. A general cardiologist with Henry Ford Consultants in Cardiology, she provides cardiovascular care to adults and has particular interests in preventing initial and recurrent heart disease, women’s cardiovascular health, cardio-obstetrics, and complex lipid disorders. The Warren Consolidated Schools Board of Education voted 6-0 to appoint Kyle Johnson to the vacant seat on the Board.
