A fun State Convention fact: we had four sets of siblings on the trip this year! 💙💛

Whether they were thrilled to be there together or just counting down the seconds until the photo was over, they all made for a great picture and a great memory for our chapter!

State FFA Convention - Day 2/3 Recap! 🌟

Wednesday morning began delegate work. Adam and Josie were our chapter’s delegates this year as returning officers, and Josie was also selected as a leadership delegate. She helped direct the work of over 335 delegates and also chaired the State Convention delegate committee. While that was happening, other members were attending the Career Expo and even meeting Temple Grandin!

In the 4th session, our chapter received a Food for America Award for our Farm Night at Prairie View Elementary. Thank you to the Farm Bureau for the award and cash prize! Then, Jackson Trussoni received the Wisconsin State FFA Degree. We had some chapter recreation and Texas Roadhouse for supper. We wrapped up Wednesday by heading back to the convention hall for the Stars over Wisconsin and new state officers being announced, followed by the dance.

On Thursday, we attended the closing general session to receive our National Chapter awards. We are thrilled to announce that we are a State Gold chapter, which ranks us within the top 10% of chapters in the state. Our application will now advance to nationals and compete there! We also were a finalist in the area of Building Communities, and we received 6th!

State FFA Convention - Day 1 Recap! 🌟

We started our day with Peyton Sprosty competing in the Prepared Speaking Contest. She earned the right to compete at state by winning our Section 3 competition. While she didn't advance to the finals, we are proud of the work and passion she put into her speech.

During the 1st General Session, Brynn Venner was recognized on stage for receiving a Washington Leadership Conference grant sponsored by the Wisconsin FFA Alumni & Supporters Association. It helped pay for our trip we took last week!

The 2nd General Session features proficiency award state finalists. Austin DeFlorian was a state finalist in Forest Products and was announced as third place - a great placing for a first year applicant! Jackson Trussoni was a state finalist in Turf & Landscape Maintenance - and he was announced as the state winner! All day both Austin and Jackson had displays up in the expo hall showcasing their SAEs.

We wrapped up the day with some Red Robin. What a great crew to experience convention with! Tomorrow brings the Convention Expo, Delegate Work, State Degrees, and more.

🚨🌟 STATE WINNER ALERT! 🌟🚨

We are so excited to announce that Jackson Trussoni was announced as the State Proficiency Winner in the area of Turf & Landscape Maintenance at this afternoon's session of the State FFA Convention! Today we returned home from WLC. Friday was service project day where the conference made Meals of Hope. The afternoon was for free time on the National Mall. We visited the Holocaust Museum, then the Museums of Natural Science and American History. The conference sessions concluded with wrap up sessions in their community groups and large group, then a celebration of the week. We got up early Saturday morning to catch our flights back home.

WLC teaches leadership through the context of our nation’s Capitol, the leaders who have formed our country, and to remember the following: “Do what we can, with what we have, where we are”

A big thank you to all who supported these three as they fundraised to be able to participate in this opportunity!

The heat index was 105 degrees in D.C. today - not ideal for official dress day at WLC - but these three were troopers! ...

The heat index was 105 degrees in D.C. today - not ideal for official dress day at WLC - but these three were troopers! We started our day with the whole conference traveling to Capitol Hill. Most of our travel during the conference is via the Metro - can you imagine a few hundred students in blue jackets getting on the metro train!? It happens at WLC. Unfortunately our iconic full conference picture on the Capitol steps was canceled due to the plaza closures.

We then took a walk to visit Representative Van Orden's office in the Longworth House Office Building. We chatted with one of his staffers and left information for them about FFA and WLC. Advocacy and citizenship are important skills learned by students at this conference.

We walked around Capitol Hill, including the Supreme Court where there was a lot of activity due to opinions being issued today. After that, we moved on to the Library of Congress. We each obtained a library card and spent time exploring the library. We then returned to the hotel mid-afternoon in time for more conference sessions.

Tomorrow is service project day!

This week Josie Hanson, Brynn Venner, and Peyton Sprosty are attending the FFA Washington Leadership Conference. WLC is the premier FFA leadership conference with students attending from all over the country. We flew to D.C. on Tuesday and visited Arlington National Cemetery prior to registration. Wednesday was filled with sessions helping members explore citizenship and develop their Living to Serve plans. We then took a night tour of the monuments, capped off by a reflections session at the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial).

Thank you to the Sand County Foundation for the grant for seeds and educational materials for our Landscaping Class collaboration with Prairie View Elementary! We visited the 4K classroom in March to stratify and plant seeds and finished the project today, transplanting them into the PV garden.

I know we've got lots of Jag Lake fans from our FFA chapter...the state FFA association is currently looking for some do...
