Norbert College students have an opportunity to enrich their musical understanding and sensitivity through courses in music appreciation, theory, history, composition and music performance. s an expression of the feelings, values and aspirations found throughout human history. Our curriculum exposes students to music of different eras, religious beliefs and cultures with the purpose of developing understanding and a lifelong appreciation of the musical arts.

The Wisconsin Chapter of the American String Teachers Association held their annual August Expo at St. Norbert College on August 8, 2026. The day included a presentation and help session on instrument maintenance and repair from Heid Music Head Luthier, Kara McCanna, a music reading session, and a walk through the Green Bay Farmers Market. SNC’s string professor, Dr. Taylor Giorgio, serves as the Collegiate Chair for the Wisconsin ASTA chapter and was thrilled to host the event!

Over the summer, Thomas Pollack attended the 2026 National Association of Pastoral Musicians conference at Catholic University in Washington DC. Thomas attended workshops, music showcases, and concerts. He saw several significant composers who have influenced the music of the Church since Vatican II, including Tony Alonso and Dan Schutte. Thomas even met up with SNC’s own Dr Justin Krueger, who is on the piano faculty for the music department.

Experience the power of music at St. Norbert College!

This academic year, the SNC Music Department is excited to once again welcome high school musicians to campus for a series of inspiring clinics led by SNC faculty and distinguished guest clinicians and composers. Each event concludes with a free public concert, giving our community the opportunity to enjoy incredible performances and support the next generation of musicians.

Over the summer, Daniel Walter attended the Chicago Composition Intensive, where he got to work alongside many other composers as they shared and learned different ways of composing. During that time, Daniel got to have private lessons with three instructors, Texu Kim, Joshua Marquez, and Zae Munn, and learned from them how to develop and work through thematic ideas and expand his scope. Daniel also got to learn from other composers' works and stylings, and spend time together discovering Chicago (and even watching Mahler 6!)

SNC String Day will take place on Sat., Oct. 10, 2026. This is a clinic for high school students that play string instruments. The day will consist of Technique Session, Masterclasses, Lunch and end with a concert. Campers will get to work with our own Taylor Giorgio (Upper Strings, St. Norbert College), Dr. Mikeila McQueston (Guest Composer, DMA University of Michigan), & Dr. Katie Decker (Lower Strings, University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh).
