Today, Pope Leo, spoke about Sacred Music...
🎶 Sacred Music: More Than Music—It Is Prayer 🎶
Sacred music has always held a special place in the Church’s liturgy. It is not simply something added to the Mass to make it more beautiful; at its best, sacred music serves the liturgy, draws us more deeply into prayer, and helps lift our hearts and minds to God.
The Second Vatican Council reminds us that the Church’s musical tradition is a “treasure of inestimable value” and that sacred music becomes even more holy when it is intimately connected with the liturgical action (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 112).
This is why the formation of musicians who understand both the art of music and the sacred nature of the liturgy is so important.
St. Norbert College is now offering a degree in Sacred Music, forming a new generation of musicians who can bring their gifts to parishes, schools, choirs, and communities of faith.
Sacred musicians do much more than perform. They help a congregation pray. They give voice to our praise, our sorrow, our hope, and our thanksgiving. Through chant, hymnody, choral music, organ, and the Church’s rich musical tradition, they help us enter more fully into the mysteries we celebrate.
In a world filled with noise, the Church continues to need musicians who understand that sacred music ultimately points beyond itself.
The goal is not applause. The goal is prayer.
The goal is not performance. The goal is participation.
The goal is always to lead hearts toward God.
What a wonderful opportunity for St. Norbert College to help preserve, renew, and hand on this sacred tradition for generations to come. 🎼🙏
