Schoolhouse is thrilled to welcome our new assistant teacher and fellow homeschool mom, Mrs. Noressa!

Noressa recently joined our team and will be working alongside our Rising Tide and Orange Grove students. Being a homeschool mom and a Sunday school teacher, she provides great knowledge and support for our students.

At Schoolhouse in the Woods you can find her creating lovely works of art, helping to prepare the classroom, and encouraging our smallest students in many ways. With a huge interest in children's literature, you also might find her reading, or helping one of our lovely students find a book to read. 📚

Mrs. Noressa believes that nature should be a primary aspect of a child's classroom, and that hands-on education is best suited to keep children engaged. We are grateful to have her on our team this year.

Thank you for all that you do, Mrs. Noressa! 💚

In the traditional education system, children are given worksheets and time constraints. ⌛

When children are homeschooled, they are taught things that worksheets never could. They are taught to take their time, to spend time in nature, and to find passions that they enjoy.

If children grow up without nature, then they will not understand it or protect it.

Today, homeschooling families are revolutionizing education by removing their children from the traditional system, and bringing them back to nature and to their roots. 💚

One of the biggest benefits of homeschooling is the gift of time.

What would your life look like if you did not have to have the children on the bus by 7:10 am? Where would your family explore? What skills would you focus on?

While reading, writing, and arithmetic are important skills to have, they’re not the whole story here! There are many skills that are just as important, and some might argue, even more so.

How would you eat if the grocery stores were empty? How would you get water to drink if there wasn’t clean water readily available? Our ancestors were masters of solving problems like this! We must look to the past to find answers for the future.

Thank you to all of those parents who are giving their children educational experiences beyond the textbook. 💚

Hi friends! We’ve had many new followers this year, so I wanted to reintroduce myself.

My name is Ms. Elle, and I am the founder of Schoolhouse in the Woods. Since I was five years old, I have known that education would be my life’s work. I am certified in both traditional and Montessori education, and I especially LOVE teaching lost skills!

At Schoolhouse in the Woods you can find me welcoming families into our classroom, reciting poetry with our amazing students, meandering through the woods, or in the storage closet organizing our rather large collection of materials. 😆

I believe children are our future, and in our turbulent world, they need as much support as we can give them to develop into thriving humans on our incredible planet.
I love my work at Schoolhouse in the Woods, and I’m passionate about helping children to reach their highest potential!

Thank you so much for supporting our mission to serve homeschooled children through the lost skills. Little hands can truly do big things!! 💚

Are children in this country getting enough time outdoors, in nature?

Current statistics tell us that the average child only receives four to seven minutes outside daily! 😫

During the summer heat, it sometimes feels easier to stay inside.
However, the benefits of time spent in nature are just as important during June, July, and August as the rest of the year! Here are 3 tips to make getting outside in the summer months easier:

☀Avoid midday heat. Go outside in the mornings and evenings. These times are cooler than in the heat of the day.
☀ Visit the springs! Florida is incredibly blessed to have these natural resources, which have consistently cool water pushing up straight from the aquifer.
☀ Seek out “green spaces.” Look for places with ample tree cover, which gives shade and cools the environment. Parks with wooded areas AND water activities are the best!!

Although intense summer temperatures can be a deterrent to getting outdoors, there are things we can do to make sure we’re still spending time in nature. We want to hear your thoughts! Is there a place that you love to go to beat the summer heat?!
