Honoring Jeff Conklin
From the office of college president Dr. Lobasso…
It is with great pleasure that I share news of Jeff Conklin receiving a Service Excellence Award this week at our Senior Executive Staff meeting.
Jeff’s culinary journey began as a teenager working in restaurants and later led to an apprenticeship at the College when it was still Daytona Beach Community College. After returning to the private sector for a time, he came back to the College in 1995 as program coordinator for Culinary. Over the past 30 years, he has helped grow the program from a single kitchen space into today’s high-quality training facilities, helping shape everything from the curriculum to the equipment students use every day.
Jeff has taught countless classes, mentored generations of students and brought a level of care and craftsmanship to his work that truly defines service excellence. If you’ve attended one of our culinary events or enjoyed a student-prepared meal in Café 101, you’ve experienced Jeff’s influence firsthand.
He also helped launch the popular Hospitality Beverage Science program and has long believed in hands-on learning and working with students until they fully understand the craft. His students leave not only with technical skills, but with pride in their work and respect for the profession. Over the years, Jeff has helped shape careers, open doors and build confidence in countless students.
Please join me in congratulating Jeff and thanking him for his continued commitment to our students and our mission.
