My name is Steffan Mallory, and I am excited to work alongside the students, faculty, and staff of our Alternative Residential Education sites. I look forward to continuing to foster meaningful relationships with the community members and organizations that support our mission and vision.

Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to meeting each student’s educational needs while helping them make meaningful progress toward promotion and graduation requirements. We will encourage students to rise to their potential, prepare for the next steps in their lives, and give their very best—even when success feels difficult or out of reach.

As a graduate of Volusia County Schools, I am proud to give back to the community that played such an important role in my development. Over the past 29 years, I have served Volusia County Schools in a variety of roles, including classroom teacher at Tomoka Elementary; assistant principal at Discovery Elementary, River Springs Middle, Holly Hill School K–8, and Creekside Middle School; and proud principal of Champion Elementary School for the past two years.

I will bring these experiences to our Alternative Residential Education Program to help ensure strong instructional practices are implemented and that each child’s academic needs are met.

As we begin a new school year, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Colleen Kirvan for her 8 years of outstanding service to our Alternative Residential Education (A.R.E.) program.

For the past eight years, Ms. Kirvan has served as our coordinator with unwavering dedication, compassion, and leadership. Her commitment to serving some of the most vulnerable students in Volusia County Schools has made a lasting impact on countless lives.

Through her vision and leadership, our programs have grown to their fullest potential. She has inspired and supported a remarkable team of teachers and staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and student-centered success. Her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment will leave a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.

While we will greatly miss Ms. Kirvan, we are excited for her as she begins this new chapter within Volusia County Schools. We wish her continued success and happiness in her new role.

Happy Friday, May 8th! Today we wrapped up the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week in the most totally awesome way!

We “lettuce celebrate” our amazing teachers because teachers like you are tender, crisp, and totally awesome! 🥗✨

The fun continued with a little painting and a big SPLASH of creativity as we spent the afternoon relaxing, laughing, and making memories together. 🎨💦

We truly shook things up—laughing, relaxing, and enjoying some much-needed time together outside of the classroom.

Today, our teachers at Alternative Residential Education were treated to a sweet treat “Kings Donuts” and a special message on a balloon! 💙🎈

We are incredibly thankful for the dedicated teachers who serve students through Stewart Marchman, the Department of Corrections, and the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

Our educators work tirelessly to support and inspire students in Volusia County Schools and neighboring counties each and every day. Thank you for the impact you make, the encouragement you give, and the hope you provide to our students.
