This page is intended for anyone who is interested in following the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. The NROTC Unit at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is committed to developing quality officers in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The midshipmen within the Battalion accomplish this through physical training, close order drill, community service, and leadership opportunities available from the Battalion or elsewhere. Midshipmen also have summer training each year to learn more about the different communities in the Navy. Rising 3/C midshipmen that go on summer training attend Career Orientation and Training for Midshipmen, or CORTRAMID. On CORTRAMID, the midshipmen spend a week each with the surface, submarine, aviation, and Marine Corps communities. Rising 2/C Navy option midshipmen that go on summer training spend time aboard either a ship or submarine and are assigned running mates from the enlisted ranks to get a firsthand view of how life aboard the ship or submarine is from them. Rising 2/C Marine option midshipmen attend Mountain Warfare Training where they learn different survival techniques and get ready for Officer Candidate School the following summer which they attend as 1/C midshipmen.

1/C Navy option midshipmen can be assigned to a ship, submarine, or squadron. They are assigned junior officers as running mates to get an idea of their role within the command. 1/C Navy option midshipmen can also spend time with the Special Forces community (Explosive Ordnance Disposal or SEALs) or go on a Foreign Exchange cruise in which they train with a foreign navy. Our August Midshipman of the Month is MIDN 3/C Kash Dwyer.
MIDN Dwyer has consistently demonstrated dedication, responsibility, and professionalism throughout the battalion. During Midshipman Orientation, he went above and beyond by dedicating his time to supporting MO staff while continuing to fulfill his own responsibilities within the unit. His willingness to help where needed and contribute outside of his immediate role reflects his commitment to the battalion as a whole.
Whether completing assigned tasks, supporting his fellow midshipmen, or stepping up when additional help is needed, MIDN Dwyer has proven himself to be dependable and hardworking. His positive attitude, strong sense of responsibility, and commitment to the team make him a solid example for those around him.

Yesterday morning, our battalion came together to run a 5K in honor and remembrance of MIDN Will Schuessler, who tragically passed away last year.
MIDN Will Schuessler was the embodiment of a dedicated servant leader who left a profound impact on the battalion and his junior Midshipmen.
Today’s run was more than just five kilometers. It was an opportunity to remember Will, honor the example he set, and carry his legacy forward.

This last Friday, Embry-Riddle NROTC joined alongside Army and Air Force ROTC to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Together, cadets and midshipmen participated in a memorial stair climb at the Daytona International Speedway, climbing one stair for every life lost that day. Each step served as a reminder of the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken, the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger, and the sacrifice of all those whose lives were forever changed.

After completing a challenging Midshipman Orientation, our newest MIDN 4/C have officially integrated into the Embry-Riddle NROTC Battalion!
Throughout orientation, the 4/C were pushed physically and mentally while learning the fundamentals of military discipline, teamwork, and life within the battalion. Their hard work and determination marked the first step in their journey as midshipmen and future Naval and Marine Corps officers.
We are proud to welcome the 4/C into the battalion and look forward to seeing them grow as leaders throughout the years ahead.

On Saturday, August 22nd, the new MIDN Candidates were introduced to the O-Course as well as some Leadership Reaction Courses (LRC’s). Day one of Midshipman Orientation!

Today, the new 4/C arrived at ERAU NROTC for orientation and training, becoming MIDN candidates once again as they learn the ropes of what it takes to be Embry-Riddle Midshipmen. Today they met the MIDN training staff, got a tour of the NROTC training areas, and were introduced to the many guidelines that are the backbone of our unit here in Daytona Beach. This summer, five of our Marine Option Midshipmen took on one of the most demanding challenges of their NROTC careers: Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia.
MIDN Jesse Massey, David Schaeffer, Savannah Peteet, Blake Spakousky, and Jacob Thomas successfully completed OCS, enduring weeks of intense physical training, demanding academics, leadership evaluations, and constant challenges designed to test their character, judgment, endurance, and ability to lead under pressure.
Their graduation represents the culmination of countless hours of preparation, perseverance, and commitment to earning the title of US Marine. Having successfully completed OCS, they return to the battalion with invaluable experience and one major step closer to commissioning as Second Lieutenants in the United States Marine Corps.
Congratulations to our OCS graduates! Your hard work and dedication have made our battalion proud.

This summer, our Midshipmen took part in Career Orientation and Training for Midshipmen (CORTRAMID), an immersive program designed to introduce future naval officers to the many facets of the Navy and Marine Corps. Throughout the training, they experienced firsthand the unique missions and capabilities of the Surface Warfare, Submarine, Aviation, and Marine Corps communities.
From flying in various military aircraft and learning about naval aviation to observing the operations of submarines and surface ships, Midshipmen gained valuable insight into the diverse career paths available within naval service. They also experienced the physical and mental demands of Marine Corps training through field exercises, obstacle courses, and small-unit leadership challenges.
CORTRAMID provided a unique opportunity to broaden their understanding of the Fleet while reinforcing the leadership, professionalism, and commitment expected of future naval officers. The experiences and lessons gained this summer will serve as a strong foundation as these Midshipmen continue their development within NROTC and prepare to lead Sailors and Marines in the years ahead.

This 1/C Friday, we recognize MIDN Evan Micelli.

With a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering with a focus in robotic and autonomous systems, MIDN Micelli will commission as a Surface Warfare Officer aboard the USS Higgins (DDG 76).

During his time in the battalion, he has served as Department Head, Work Center Supervisor, Training Officer, and Senior Chief for Engineering Department.

Outside of his responsibilities to the unit, MIDN Micelli enjoys lifting weights, going to the beach, and working as a Student Parts Assistant at the Fleet Maintenance Hangar.

His favorite battalion memory was his classic Christmas party during his 3/C year.

His advice to the 4/C: Invest in your class and help each other out. They’re your brothers and sisters.
