• They may attend an in-depth four-hour training [which focuses on student needs and results] held at various times throughout the year.
• Tutors consult with the Program Director as needed [for support] and turn in monthly progress reports. Students: Must be adults 16 and older, separated from the public school system (assuring we are not duplicating services in K-12 programs) and seeking to develop their literacy to pursue a higher quality of living [via: ongoing education, family development, workforce development, occupational performance and/or financial literacy awareness].
• Students are seen by an intake specialist for informal assessment and then scheduled for a formal assessment GAIN [General Assessment of Instructional Needs], [TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System)- ESL exam] or BEST Test-ESL exam].
• The program director uses the standardized test results to determine the literacy level of the students in reading, math and language and then selects the most effective tutoring resources to be used coordinately.
• Students are matched with a tutor [according to availability, location, and tutor preference] either one-on-one or small group to begin tutoring sessions and meet twice each week for 1.5 hr sessions.
