Daytona State College’s Associate of Science in Respiratory Care program has received the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

The award recognizes programs that demonstrate sustained success preparing graduates for the Registered Respiratory Therapist credential. To qualify, programs must report at least three years of outcomes data, maintain accreditation without a progress report, achieve a credentialing success rate of 90 percent or higher and meet or exceed national benchmarks on key performance measures.

Daytona State’s program reports a 95 percent pass rate on the credentialing exam and a 100 percent employment rate for graduates.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty and the hard work of our students,” said Dr. Colin Chesley, Associate Vice President, College of Health & Public Services. “Our goal is simple – make sure graduates leave Daytona State ready to step into the profession and care for patients on day one.”

Our Diagnostic Medical Sonography program recently hosted an event featuring Ed Durham, a nationally recognized professional in veterinary ultrasound and cardiac imaging. Mr. Durham was the first veterinary technician to become a licensed sonographer and has trained numerous veterinarians in cardiac ultrasound techniques.

The event was sponsored by Manifest Medical, led by Rob Guyton in Jacksonville. Mr. Guyton previously worked with Siemens, GE, and Philips as a biomedical engineer and sales leader. His company specializes in imaging equipment repair and replacement.

It was an outstanding presentation. The students were highly engaged, asked insightful questions, and had the opportunity to see a brand-new ultrasound unit designed to advance veterinary imaging. The experience helped them understand how entry-level education can evolve into diverse career paths that ultimately enhance patient care
