Thankful to be back πππΌ
It appears that I'm back in control of my pages, PTL. Thanks for your patience, friends!
Moving forward, let me know if you're starting to think about doing an evaluation in lieu of testing this year! Evaluations are a much less stressful, friendly, and legal alternative to testing!
βοΈ CHEC friends (Colorado only), remember that this is a testing year, and EVERY student in EVERY grade from 3rd through 12th needs to turn in results!
βοΈ If you turned in an NOI, you'll need to turn in test or evaluation results every other year starting in 3rd grade. For my Floridians, your dates will vary depending on when you turned in your notice to your district!
βοΈ Everyone else, check with your umbrella school, since requirements vary!

Blog Are you homeschooling an introvert? Never fear! βΊοΈ As homeschoolers, we all think about the buzzword "socialization" (ugh). While Iβve got a lot to say about that, the bottom line is this:...
π
Florida homeschool friends: If you found me here, please also follow my main page, "Mosaic Academic Evaluations - Kim Almas."
I update that page more frequently, and anything I post will apply to Florida (unless noted)!
Thanks for following me, and I'm looking forward to working with your family when you're ready! π

It's Election Day! πΊπΈπ For a homeschooler, this can cover a variety of topics: civics/government (obviously), geography, math, language arts, and even some life skills π
β’ Take your kids with you to vote if you can ππ»
β’ Discuss your favored candidate and your values. π€
β’ Read age-appropriate books about the birth of our nation, founding fathers, the Constitution, and/or just the election. Teach vocabulary surrounding the election as you discuss the process. (Videos are ok too!) π
β’ Older students may wish to create posters or blog posts in favor of "their" candidate. Or, practice speech and debate with **friendly** debates that get your students thinking about both sides of issues. βοΈ
β’ Make a red-white-and-blue dessert or treat. ππ«
β’ See below for a link to a PDF for a FREE Electoral College map (and other fun links). Use red and blue colored pencils to color in the map tonight as the states are "called" for each candidate. β¬οΈ
β’ Add up the results as you go, and speculate outcomes based on different scenarios. ββπ€
β’ Celebrate the fact that we live in a country where we're allowed to take part in the system, no matter the outcome πΊπΈ πππΌ
What would you add? Please feel free to share resources in the comments (but let's keep it friendly π

Florida Homeschoolers, did you know?? This is super important!
(Side bar: Remember, by accepting PEP funds, you are no longer technically a homeschooler. In addition, you must test every year. Evaluations are no longer an option. π’)

Good news, homeschool friends! Florida homeschool law allows you to choose to have your child evaluated by a Florida licensed teacher in lieu of standardized testing! As a βgraduatedβ homeschool parent (with 30+ years in education), I am delighted to help the homeschool community navigate this requirement. My approach is based on work samples and/or parent input, and is not intimidating or overwhelming π (My rates are pretty fair too π) My website is coming soon, but you can message me here in the meantime. Iβm looking forward to meeting you!
