grades seven and eight. Dayton, Riverview, and Sutro are the three elementary schools in the area that feed into our school. Dayton
Intermediate School serves Dayton High School, which has maintained an 80.46% or higher graduation rate for the last three years, as
compared with the state average of 70.65%. Over the last three years, there have been few changes in the student demographics for Dayton Intermediate School. For the 2016-2017
school year, the school has a predominantly Caucasian population, of 65.65%. The remaining population of the school is comprised of the
following: Hispanic students, 25.76%, two or more races 6.09%, Asian is not reported, African American is not reported. 8.8% of the
students work under an Individualized Educational Plan, and 5.2% of the students fall into the Limited English Proficient category. The
attendance rate is currently 94.8%. Lyon County, where Dayton Intermediate School is located, is being affected by an uptick in the economy with Tesla and Switch moving into
the area. These corporations are expected to impact employment and student populations. With the unemployment rate in Lyon County at
7.3% (https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/NVLYON9URN), most recent data shows that for the 2015-2016 school year, 28.81% of students are
receiving free or reduced lunch. The transiency rate stands at 14.1%, which is significantly lower than the rest of the school district and the
state, 21.7%, and 27.5%, respectively. Currently there are 23 teachers working at Dayton Intermediate School. Honors courses are offered for Math, English and Social Studies: 7th
grade Accelerated Math, 7th and 8th grade English as well as 7th and 8th grade Social Studies. Dayton Intermediate School offers high
school credit opportunities in Algebra 1, Spanish 1, and Computer Applications. The school offers several electives: Gifted and Talented
program, Art, Band, Choir, Drama, STEM, Yearbook, and Leadership. Our Special Education Department consists of three teachers staff members who provide additional resource classes. Five Para-
Professionals provide support for our special education students. We also have an Limited English Proficiency teacher as well as a ½ time
LEP teacher assistant who works with the Limited English Proficiency students, utilizing both small group and push-in models. Through a collaborative partnership with community and state supported grants, Dayton Intermediate School provides students with a Dayton
Area Resource Coordinator, Terri Gahr and Student Support Services, Michelle Watkins. Terri Gahr is able to connect families and students
with community and state resource necessary to a successful and healthy learning opportunity. Michelle Watkins provides services that are
designed to create a caring safe school environment to help students be successful in school. We are currently operating with six class periods of fifty-five minutes each and a daily 25-minute Advisory class. The Advisory class is also
providing students a curriculum focusing on college and career readiness and an emphasis on goal setting. Teachers confer with students
about grades and citizenship.

Good Evening Sundevil Familes!
As we enter the start of the school year and all of the upcoming sporting and co-curricular events occuring at Dayton High School. I wanted to take a moment to inform everyone that NO DIS student will be allowed to be dropped off and left alone at ANY DHS Sporting or Co-Curricular Event.
This includes but is not limited to: Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Cheer, Wrestling, Cross Country, Golf, Track and Field, Theatre Performances, Band and Choir, Color Gaurd, etc. Students MUST be present and sitting with their parents for the entirety of the event.

Thank you for your understanding and helping us all have ​safe ​and respectful events!
