Summer is officially here. Although we haven't been posting much, we have been having so much fun with SUMMER CAMP!

HOWEVER, we have several places where we need volunteers from our parents this summer.

Carpet cleaning: From July 6-July 9 the carpets in the main building need to be cleaned. The school will rent a steamer, but we need volunteers to run it.

- Swimming chaperones: swimming has been great fun for the summer care children and Bonnie and Brandi are doing a magnificent job keeping the children safe, but a few more eyes on the children is always a good thing. Any Tuesday or Thursday between 1 pm and 3 pm please come out to Cassel Hills pool and enjoy the sun, the water, and the children.

- Gardening: we need volunteers to pull weeds and maintain beds. We have plants growing up in every crack! Any amount of time spent is much appreciated.

Today is our last day of the 2020-21 school year! What a year this has been! Thank you to all the staff, teachers, parents, and students for your support, flexibly and loyalty to Gloria Dei during this year of last-minute changes, protocols, and uncertainty. We made it and we rocked it.

We are looking forward to summer care this year and an even better 2021-2022 for all!

Maria Montessori died on this day and we will forever be grateful for her life & work. 💜

On 6 May 1952, Maria Montessori died unexpectedly and peacefully in Noordwijk, a small town on the Dutch coast. A citizen of the world, she had asked to be buried wherever she died — which is why you will find her grave in Noordwijk. Many Montessorians when “doing the Dutch Montessori Trail” plan a visit to her grave and are touched by the inscription of her grave and the beautiful, symbolic semi-circular construction. What many people may not know is that this was designed by her oldest grandson Mario Junior. Here is a snippet of a memory of Maria Montessori he shared in 1992, published in AMI’s Communications (1992/4).

One of our favorite things about Montessori learning is how children learn complicated math concepts right from the get-go!

“The child can develop fully by means of experience in his environment. We call such experiences ‘work’.”
