Student Spotlight: Meet Rahul Balami 💚💛💚
From Chitlang, Makwanpur, Nepal! Rahul is pursuing a bachelor's degree in accountancy & finance and brings a thoughtful, motivated, and community-focused perspective to campus life at Wright State. When asked about a must-visit place in his hometown, Rahul recommends Indrasarowar Lake — Nepal’s biggest man-made lake and a beautiful destination to experience nature and relaxation. One of the biggest cultural differences Rahul has noticed between Nepal and the U.S. is how festivals are celebrated. In Nepal, festivals focus heavily on community, history, and togetherness, while here they are often centered more around family time and spending quality time together.
One thing Rahul values most about studying at Wright State is the diversity on campus:
“Meeting people from various backgrounds and learning about their stories.” If he could teach everyone one thing about his culture, it would be how to make cultural foods filled with rich spices! His favorite phrase in Nepali Basha is: “साःसाः (Saah-saah)” — meaning “very tasty.” Rahul’s advice for new students: “Don’t panic when something goes the wrong way. Try to figure out what you could do to improve it and ask for help.”
The best advice he’s received while studying abroad is to explore your interests and take risks
toward your future. Since studying at Wright State, Rahul says he’s discovered how much he
enjoys hearing people’s life stories and learning how they became who they are today, and those
stories motivated Rahul to be better than yesterday. You can often find Rahul at two of his favorite campus spots — Dunbar Library, and the rock-climbing gym. Rahul says Wright State has supportive faculty members who will “show up
when I need them.”

Student Spotlight: Meet Himani! 💚💛
From the peaceful town of Rajpura, Punjab, to the halls of Wright State University, Himani is making the most of her journey as an international student!
Currently pursuing her bachelor's in computer science, Himani has embraced life abroad by stepping out of her comfort zone—a move she says has helped her grow both personally and academically. Since arriving, Himani has discovered a newfound sense of resilience and the ability to manage her time and make independent decisions. Her favourite stops on campus are Dunbar Library and Rey Rey café where she usually refuels her coffee. While she’s enjoying her time here, she misses Kheer, a traditional Indian dessert that always brings back warm memories of home. Himani's ideal weekend is a perfect balance of relaxation and productivity—catching up with friends and planning for the week ahead. Her advice to fellow students? Stay consistent, don't wait until the last minute, and never hesitate to ask for help!
We are so glad to have you as part of our community, Himani!

Thank you Suvekshya for sharing your gifts. 💚💛
After having a painting selected for last year’s silent auction, sophomore Suvekshya Maharjan will have her photograph “Lightburst” featured in this year’s ArtsGala. The experience reflects how much she has grown during her time at Wright State. Last year, Maharjan said she was still adjusting to campus life and felt unsure speaking with ArtsGala patrons about her work. Now, she is more confident. “This year, I made friends, I have good relationships with my professors,” she said. “I’m really comfortable.” https://bit.ly/4bQLohD
