I went on a 12 hour walk along the Great Miami Riverway for my birthday.
I as soon as I heard about the idea, I knew it was something I wanted to do, and my gracious husband said he’d do whatever was needed to make it happen for my birthday. Here is a recap of my 12 hour journey, and some things I noticed along the way.
Reflections
Silence and solitude feel much easier without stillness. I’ve done numerous silent retreats, and always feel a sense of wrestling illness, but because I am moving the whole time this feels much different. talks about the invitation of silence, stillness, and solitude being specific to each Enneagram Triad and I resonate with that fully. The invitation for head types is silence, for heart types is solitude, and for body types is stillness.
I had to keep reminding myself that it doesn’t matter how far I get, it’s OK to slow down and enjoy the process of getting however far I get. I truly struggled with this the whole time and in the end I was still WAY too intense about walking. I completely wore myself out because I never took any break wear I sat down the whole 12 hours and the was a HUGE mistake. Sometimes my Enneagram 8 intensity is truly laughable in moments like this where I brought this pain on myself.
One of the parts of Josh‘s gift was that he reached out to friends and family and asked them to write a short note so that I could take it with me and Reed throughout the journey. Some of them have been really heartfelt and some of them have been really funny. They each seem to come at a time where I’ve needed it most. It’s been a gift to carry those people along with me on the journey. Thank you for the notes! .schleinitz More reflections in the comments 👇
