Enneagram Workshop with the Mankind Project’s open circle last night in Dayton, OH
The is a brotherhood that builds and supports the emotionally mature, accountable, and compassionate male role models that our communities so desperately need.
Understanding your Enneagram Type leads to greater self-awareness by learning about your strengths and weaknesses as well as identifying unhealthy behaviors and emotional responses. This self-reflection is a crucial step in achieving the emotional maturity the ManKind Project promotes.
The Enneagram encourages personal responsibility. By understanding how our behaviors affect others, we can hold ourselves accountable for our actions and decisions.
Learning about the motivations and struggles of different Enneagram Types also cultivates empathy. We can appreciate diverse perspectives and understand the experiences of others with greater compassion for differing experiences.

Type Five in Stress
For some of us, we are pretty aware of when we are stressed, and so it’s helpful to name some of these tendencies in ourselves as a stress responses and to be gracious with ourselves as we find better ways to cope with the stress we are experiencing.
For others of us, we might not even be aware that we are stressed. If you are one of those people, it’s helpful to know what kinds of behaviors are indicative of stress for your Type so that you can go back to the source and consider what is stressing you out and how you might better cope with that stress.
For the Type Five out there, does this resonate with you? What’s helped you cope with stress when you begin to notice these behaviors?

Type 1 in Stress
When Type 1 experiences stress, like all numbers, they will first behave poorly with the natural tendencies of their number. When a 1 drops down into the bottom of average in their number, they start fixing, cleaning, arranging, sorting, and perfecting everything (including objects, situations & people). They become more cynical, sarcastic or judgmental.
Then, Type 1 will “move” to Type 4 in that experience of stress. They will take on the tendencies of a Type 4 at the bottom of average if they aren’t mindful. The 1 will turn their anger inward and become moody or depressed. They long to be free of responsibility and wonder “why does no one else seem to care as much as I do? Why am I the only responsible one?” They lose self-confidence and begin to feel unlovable and that no one cares.
However, if a Type 1 realizes they are stressed, they can instead use their Type 4 Stress Number as a resource and intentionally choose to “move” to the high side of 4. In healthier levels, they can use gifts of a Type 4 to become more in touch with their feelings and embrace relative, non-dualistic thinking so that they don’t see the world in what needs to be fixed.
Type 1s, does it resonate? We learn best from hearing what resonates with each number. If you have an example or story that illustrates this move to your Stress Number, I’d love for you to comment!
