In RCA math, "getting it right" is more than getting right answers. And it really is about "real life" (because of our wonderful God!).

The 5th/6th graders had an unexpected visitor this week! In science we are currently studying spiders, and during class one graciously chose to stroll down the hallway right outside our door. His capture provided opportunity for the students to observe his body parts, including the clearly visible setae on his legs -- wonderful testimony to the infinitely creative mind of his Maker!. By majority vote our visitor was named Fred II and released to resume his divine calling.
"My kids are singing!"

On Friday, the 5th/6th grade science class attended a class at Brukner Nature Center on reptiles and amphibians. Students had ample time to add creatures to their nature journals, but they also got to "meet" a spotted salamander and a ratsnake up close! Ms. Katie, the Brukner naturalist, provided wonderful insight on ectothermic reptiles and amphibians, then took students to the pond to observe painted turtles in their natural habitat. Here, she taught them about yet another creature -- an invasive species harming the pond's ecosystem. (Hint: it is orange-colored and breathes through gills!)
