If a musician sees a E note on the sheet music, then plays it. Is he being told what to play? Or if he hears a song and the first note he hears is an A, then the musician plays an A. Is his creativity stuffled or held back or is he doing just what he's told? No. It is the same with artists. If an artist sees the value, then paints that value, they are no less of an artist then a musician. When musians learn to "see the notes" on the page, or learns to "hears the notes" then learns to "play the notes on a musical instrument then they can learn to be creative on how they play the notes: fast, slow, loud, soft. Then they can learn to rearrange the notes to tell a story. When Artists learn to "see" value, edge and color, then learn how to apply what they see with a medium, then they can be creative on how they apply the paint to tell a story. Notes are musicians tools to create, the notes are un changing. They are set. An A note is an A note. Value, Edge. And color are Artists tools. They are set. Once understood, there is freedom to create.
