PARENT CHALLENGE: The Front-Door "Launchpad" Reset! ๐Ÿš€

Sunday night prep is the secret to a stress-free Monday morning. Todayโ€™s family challenge is to set up a dedicated launchpad station near your door for all your kids' gear.

Get your children involved by giving them age-appropriate jobs tonight:

๐Ÿ‘ฆ Kindergartners (Diamond): Set shoes and outerwear by their basket.
๐Ÿ‘ง 3rd Graders (Dylan): Put their signed reading log into their backpack.
๐Ÿ‘ฆ 6th Graders (Deuce): Plug in devices and check school folders.
๐Ÿ‘ง High Schoolers (Ana): Review the week's schedule and route essentials.

๐Ÿ“ธ Snap a photo of your family launchpad and post it in the comments below! One family will win a family game night gift basket!

๐Ÿ’™ DPS FAMILIES: Stay Connected. Stay Informed. Stay Ready! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“ฒ

Hey, Village! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿพ

As we get the school year rolling, we want our parents, grandparents, guardians, kinship caregivers, foster families, and ALL the amazing adults raising and supporting our students to have helpful information right at their fingertips.

๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ’จ FIRST โ€” What If You Suspect Mold at Your Child's School?

If you see, smell, or hear about possible mold or water damage, don't panicโ€”but don't ignore your concerns either.

Here are a few important steps:

๐Ÿ“ธ DOCUMENT IT โ€” Write down dates, locations and concerns. Keep pictures, emails, and messages when available.

๐Ÿ“ง COMMUNICATE โ€” Contact your child's principal or appropriate school contact in writing. Ask whether the area has been inspected, whether a moisture source was found and corrected, and what steps are being taken.

๐Ÿฉบ WATCH YOUR CHILD โ€” Pay attention to new or worsening coughing, wheezing, congestion, eye/nose/throat irritation, asthma, or allergy symptoms. If you have health concerns, contact your child's healthcare provider.

๐Ÿ“ ASK FOR SUPPORT โ€” If a health concern is affecting your child's ability to attend, participate, or learn at school, talk with the school team. Families of students with an IEP or Section 504 Plan can also contact their child's team when appropriate.

๐Ÿค REACH OUT FOR HELP โ€” You don't have to figure out the school process by yourself. Your DPS Family & Parent Involvement/Parent Mentor team can help families organize concerns, prepare questions, understand who to contact, and advocate for their child's educational needs.

๐Ÿ“ฒ AND DON'T MISS THIS!

Parents of 3rd graders: This is a crucial milestone year for literacy! The 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee can feel intimidating, but you are your child's best reading coach.

Dylan is working on his reading stamina this month! Here is how you can support your child at home without the stress:
๐Ÿ“– The 20-Minute Rule: Split reading into two 10-minute sessions (one morning, one night).
โ“ Ask 'Why' & 'How': Don't just ask what happenedโ€”ask how the character felt.
๐Ÿชž Model It: Let your child see you reading books, news, or recipes!

๐Ÿš€ Together, weโ€™re making reading a superpower!

08/19/2026

Going from preschool to Kindergarten is a massive emotional leap for our littlest scholarsโ€”and for us as parents! Separation anxiety and big afternoon meltdowns are completely normal during the first few weeks.

Diamond and her family are practicing the "Smell the flower, blow out the candle" breathing technique. Try doing this together during your evening wind-down to help your child process their day.

๐Ÿ’› Parent Reminder: You are doing a great job. Be patient with the adjustment periodโ€”restful bedtimes lead to smoother mornings!
