To you young people out there, we don’t get to pick our families but we get to pick our friends. Choose people who are kind and full of love. Choose people who are giving and selfless. Today, I did that. Laura and Bo Cox and their children are the salt of the earth. Surround yourself with friends that will sit and catch Billy Bees on their hands with you and laugh about childhood memories of Doodle Bugs or hay bales rolling down a hill. God gives us chance encounters and don’t waste them. If I leave this earth tonight, I’m a better person for having known them. Choose people who become your family away from family. I thank God each day for my chance encounters and I relish them. Thank you to Bo and Laura and Emily for all your hard work today on a Sunday just because you wanted to. Laugh with each other and make memories while you can.

What it really means to be an AG teacher. Beef show on Friday night. Attending a dairy show on Saturday and bailing hay from school hay field with the Alumni on Sunday. Never ends!

Our Dawson FFA beef team exhibited their beef heifers and steers at the Rabun County Beef Cattle Show on Friday, August 21.

Placings for our team were…

Audrie McCallister- 1st Registered Charolais

Kaelynn Davis
12th grade showmanship- pulled for final drive
Heifer weight- 3rd with Nilla
Steer weight- 3rd with Diesel

Isabella Hardie - 2nd in the registered Charolais class

Cheyenne Deaton-5th overall senior showman and 3rd in the registered Charolais class

Addie Jones - 4th in class with her steer, Rocky
5th with her heifer, Dottie,in commercial

Reed Jones - 5th with Peanut in commercial class

Landon Burt - 4th place with Platinum in commercial class
