Alumni Spotlight! 🌟
Meet Torren, a 2025 graduate from MIPS! Torren was born in Anaheim, California, but moved to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, when he was 6 years old. He is the oldest of three siblings, and his brother and sister both attended MIPS as well. Torren loves to support live arts and music with his favorite genre being jazz. Torren is passionate about volunteering, playing music for residents in assisted living homes, and enjoys watching Detroit sports. During his time at MIPS, Torren spent time as a member of the gaming club with Clayton McDowell who served as a strong mentor for Torren throughout his time at MIPS.
In his first year of college, Torren attended Central Michigan University but will be transferring to Cornell University where he plans to double major in Government and Music. He is excited to begin this journey in New York and looks forward to the opportunities, resources, and community that come along with an Ivy League university.
Torren heavily enjoyed his time attending MIPS. He loved all of his arts courses, and Voice with Mr. Card was his favorite class. Torren feels that this class allowed him to gain so much both personally and professionally from studying with Mr. Card. Torren says, “the MIPS arts program provides so much value to its students, and for an online school, it was truly spectacular. Mr. Card played a huge role in my pursuit of higher education, and I owe a lot of my academic and musical success to him!”
Torren most enjoyed the arts programs at MIPS. He also enjoyed the dual enrollment opportunities that MIPS offers. The dual enrollment options offered were extremely helpful for Torren when it came to career planning, and the support he received from his mentor at this time allowed him the guidance he needed to succeed. Torren is also pleased with the help MIPS offered beyond graduation during his college transfer process.
Torren’s next big goal is to attend law school after completing his undergraduate degree. He plans to work in entertainment law to advocate for fellow musicians and artists. We are proud of this MIPS alumni and can’t wait to see what he does next!
