Thursday Thoughts! πŸ’

One of the things that makes MIPS special is the strong sense of community we create, even in a virtual environment.

In this video, Lead School Counselor Jaimie Barksdale shares how MIPS feels like one big family. While students connect online each day through classes, messages, and ongoing support, they also have opportunities to build relationships through in-person events, activities, and gatherings throughout the year.

At MIPS, connection goes beyond the classroom. Whether students are chatting with staff, collaborating with peers, attending events, or reaching out for support, we work hard to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and part of our school family.

What's Happening Wednesday! πŸ”ˆ

We are excited to celebrate an incredible accomplishment by MIPS student Jordyn B., who was recently named the winner of the Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA) Art Contest for the second time!

Each year, charter school students from across Michigan submit original artwork showcasing how charter schools make a difference in their lives. Entries are judged and then voted on by the public, with winning students receiving cash prizes for their outstanding work.

Jordyn's creativity, talent, and artistic vision helped her artwork stand out among submissions from students across the state, earning her this prestigious recognition once again.

This achievement is even more special because it marks the third consecutive year that a MIPS student has won the MAPSA Art Contest, a testament to the incredible talent and creativity within our school community.

Congratulations, Jordyn! We are so proud of your accomplishment and grateful for the way you continue to represent MIPS with excellence.

Student Spotlight! 🌟

At Michigan International Prep School, we are proud to celebrate students who work hard to achieve their goals both in and out of the classroom. Anthony is one of those students.

Originally from Chicago, Anthony is in his third year at MIPS and appreciates the flexibility the school provides as he balances academics and hockey. During his freshman and sophomore years, he played for HoneyBaked while living with a billet family in Troy. MIPS gave him the opportunity to stay on track academically while pursuing his athletic goals.

Anthony enjoys science classes because he loves learning about the world around him. Outside of school, he spends his time playing hockey, listening to music, and playing video games. One fun fact about Anthony is that he has been an uncle since he was just three years old. As the youngest in his family, with an older sibling nearly 20 years older than him, his youth hockey coaches affectionately nicknamed him "Uncle AJ."

Anthony has built strong relationships during his time at MIPS. His former mentor, Frank Dame, became such an important part of his journey that they still keep in touch today. He is also grateful for the support of his current mentor, Candace Hamilton, who helps him manage the demands of school and hockey while encouraging him every step of the way.

Candace shared, "Anthony is an outstanding student whose energy and dedication set him apart. He consistently maintains strong pacing and impressive grades in his courses, all while juggling a demanding hockey regimen. His positive attitude, reliability, and excellent communication make him a true pleasure to work with."

Anthony's dedication, positive attitude, and strong work ethic make him an outstanding member of the MIPS community. We are excited to see what his future holds.

Thursday Thoughts! πŸ’

At MIPS, we believe every student deserves a pathway built for their unique journey. We value the opportunity to partner with families, meet students where they are, and create programs that support their individual needs and goals.

As Superintendent Andrew Hulbert shared in this video, our support goes beyond academics. We are committed to finding ways to support students personally as well, helping them grow, succeed, and feel connected every step of the way.

What's Happening Wednesday! πŸ”ˆ

One of our incredible MIPS juniors is already making college level success look easy! While balancing dual enrollment classes, a job, and an active social life, she earned a spot on the President’s List at Delta College with an outstanding 4.0 GPA. πŸ‘

Her hard work, dedication, and time management show what is possible when students are given the flexibility and support to thrive both academically and personally. We are so proud of all she has accomplished!

At Michigan International Prep School, students have access to amazing dual enrollment opportunities that allow them to earn college credit while still in high school. Through these programs, students can challenge themselves academically, explore future career paths, and get a head start on their college journey while maintaining the flexibility to pursue work, extracurriculars, and personal goals.
