California EFNEP

California EFNEP The Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) delivers quality, evidence-based nutrition education to limited resource families.

In California, EFNEP is administered by the University of California Cooperative Extension. As a result of participating in EFNEP, individuals and families experience improvements in four core areas:

Diet Quality and Physical Activity—Improved diets and nutritional and physical well-being through the adoption of federal food and physical activity recommendations

Food Resource Management—Increase

d ability to buy, grow, or otherwise appropriately obtain, prepare, and store food that meets nutritional needs

Food Safety—Improved household food safety and sanitation practices

Food Security—Increased ability to get food directly—and from food assistance programs where necessary—to ensure having enough healthy food to eat

🥣✨ EFNEP teaches students that healthy eating can be simple, fun, and delicious!

Students learn how to make easy recipes using just a few simple ingredients, like these protein-packed Oat Bites! 💪

They’re a great snack to grab on the go, and even better, kids can make them, too! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Students can get creative by adding their favorite ingredients, such as:
🍌 Banana
🎃 Puréed pumpkin
🥥 Coconut
🍫 Favorite mix-ins

Healthy recipes don’t have to be complicated! EFNEP helps students build skills they can use at home and beyond. ❤️

Our Nutrition Education team had a great time attending the Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior Conference in Washington, DC! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with EFNEP teams and nutrition education colleagues from across the country, share ideas, and learn from one another.

Our Youth, Families, and Communities advisors proudly represented ANR during the poster session, our EFNEP Coordinator connected with fellow EFNEP teams, including colleagues from North Carolina and across the country, and our Nutrition Specialist facilitated breakout sessions, sharing expertise and engaging with fellow professionals.

Were you there too? We'd love to hear about your experience, drop a comment below!

What an inspiring group at the Bresee Foundation! 💚

LA County EFNEP had the pleasure of providing nutrition education workshops to nearly 30 dedicated participants, including mothers of middle and high school–aged children and seniors who lovingly care for and feed their grandchildren.

Their enthusiasm, participation, and commitment to learning about healthy eating made every workshop a success. Thank you for welcoming us and for your passion for creating healthier futures for your families and community!

💪 Building Confidence Through Movement!

In our EFNEP workshops, we encourage simple physical activities like walking, stretching, and weight-bearing exercises. These activities help participants build strength, improve balance and flexibility, and increase confidence in staying active.

Regular movement also supports overall health and can help your body adapt better to exercising in warm weather when you gradually increase your activity. Remember to stay hydrated, dress for the weather, and take breaks to help prevent heat-related illness.

Every step counts toward a healthier, more confident you! 🚶‍♀️

What is your favorite way to stay active?

🌟 Fresno County EFNEP partnered with Evangel Home, a temporary housing program for women and women with children, to deliver the Eating Smart, Being Active curriculum.

Participants are learning healthy cooking, trying new foods, and increasing physical activity. One participant shared that doing exercises from the Get Moving lesson helps her stay energized and focused, while another now exercises with her children.

After tasting turnip pancakes in class, several participants made the recipe at home for their families. Small changes today are helping build healthier futures. 💚
