The UC Davis Student Housing and Dining Services team are preparing for further storm events as the Davis region is expecting more storms beginning tonight and proceeding through the week. These will include heavy rain and high winds likely resulting in localized urban flooding, and additional power outages.
We are taking all possible actions to ensure our sites and buildings are ready. We have also begun planning in the event of further power outages.
We recommended that all students prepare an emergency kit that can be used during prolonged power outages and/or other emergencies. Some items you may want to consider including in a kit:
· First aid kit (which should include bandages, a thermometer, basic cold/flu medications, prescription medications you need, etc.)
· Flashlights/headlamps (with batteries, extra rechargeable batteries or a hand crank; we recommend you have something in addition to your phone). DO NOT use candles nor any gas or propane heater as it poses a fire hazard.
· Back-up battery charger for devices (keep it ready and charged at all times)
· Snacks (non-perishable food and water)
· Extra blankets
In addition to these items, please keep in mind that power outages can also impact the internet and hot water. Please regularly check for updates regarding these or other outages.
This message was also sent to residents’ emails.
