What does it mean to explore human rights, memory and democracy in the places where history unfolded?

As their three-week “Human Rights, Memory, and Democracy in Chile” program comes to a close, UC Davis students are reflecting on an immersive journey examining the legacies of Chile’s dictatorship and its aftermath.

Alongside students from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, they have engaged in intercultural dialogue and learned firsthand from the people, communities and places that have shaped Chile’s history.

Their journey has taken them from the colorful port city of Valparaíso to the Paine Memorial, deepening their understanding of how societies remember the past and work toward a more democratic future.

Today, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a final rule that replaces duration of status with fixed time periods for length of stay for F and J visa holders, and formalizes a process to request extensions, now overseen by DHS.

We understand that members of our campus community on F and J visas will have questions about how this final rule will affect them. Services for International Students and Scholars is analyzing the rule so advisors can accurately answer your questions.

More information will be posted on a dedicated page on our website as we have it. We encourage you to regularly check: https://siss.ucdavis.edu/news/final-rule-updates
