Harper Jr. High Music Program

Come one, Come all:

The Harper Jr. High Music Program 2025 Spring Concert, directed by Oscar Garibay and Greg Brucker, is right around the corner! The concert will be held at Davis High School's Brunelle Hall on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025. The concert begins at 7 PM and is free for all attendees.

Harper’s awesome Mariachi del Río, under the excellent direction of Oscar Garibay, will be performing several traditional tunes arranged by Mr. Garibay himself. Harper’s bands and orchestras, under the direction of Greg Brucker, will perform music by Reinhold Gliere, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Antonio Vivaldi, Joseph Bologne, Scott Joplin, John Philip Sousa, Camille Saint-Saens, a Davis area debut of music by American Composer Amy Beach, and much more! As well, the 7th grade Band and Orchestra be joined by their 8th/9th grade counterparts to form larger ensembles to close out their year. The Harper Jr High Spring Concert will conclude with the third year of the Harper Symphony Orchestra, performing arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet and the professional-level arrangement of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

Mr. Brucker will also be the Spring Concert’s Master of Ceremonies.

The concert is free and open to families, friends, and supporters of the student musicians. You are invited to join us in celebration of a great year of music making and in congratulations of our 9th graders, who are heading off to high school after an awesome three years at Harper.

Emerson/DaVinci Jr High Orchestra’s Recruitment Workshop & Concert

~ Wednesday, February 26th, 2025 ~

The Emerson & Da Vinci Jr. High Music Program would like to invite all returning string players to our 2025 Elementary Strings Workshop on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

The workshop, sponsored by the Davis Schools Orchestral Music Association (DSOMA). www.dsoma.org, begins at 3:15 PM and ends with the Side-by-Side Concert at 7 PM.

Both the concert and workshop are free along with a pizza dinner available to all students in attendance before the concert. The Emerson/DaVinci Orchestra students and music director, Luana Hernandez-Howe, look forward to meeting new string players and having fun making music together! Mrs. Hernandez-Howe will be available to answer parent and student questions after the concert.

Announcing the Harper Jr High Orchestras/Elementary Strings Workshop and Side-by-Side Concert on Weds., February 19th, 2025.

All 2nd and 3rd year (5th and 6th grade) elementary strings musicians at Fred T. Korematsu Elementary School, Pioneer Elementary, and Marguerite Montgomery Elementary, or any site across the Davis Joint Unified School District who will be attending Harper Jr High, are cordially invited to join us for an awesome afternoon of music making. (Links to the other jr high strings workshops and side by side concerts are in the comments.)

The 2025 Elementary Strings Workshop is a FREE workshop at Harper Jr. High and will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 19, 2025, followed by our annual Side-by-Side Concert for all returning Elementary Strings students, at 7 pm. It is hosted by Mr. Brucker and the Harper Jr. High Music Program, and is sponsored by the Davis Schools Orchestral Music Association - DSOMA. www.dsoma.org.

The Workshop begins at 3:15 PM with a culminating concert for all parents at 7 PM. A pizza dinner will be served to all in attendance before the concert. Please make us aware of any food allergies or dietary needs so we can make sure every child has something for the meal.

Performing along with the Harper Orchestras will be Mariachi Puente and our All-City-Strings Orchestra led by Ms. Cooley.

Come One, Come All:

The Harper Jr. High Music Program 2024 Fall Concert, directed by Oscar Garibay and Greg Brucker, is right around the corner! The concert will be held at Davis High School's Brunelle Hall on Thursday, November 21st, 2024. The concert begins at 7 PM.

We are very excited to premiere and introduce DJUSD’s newest ensemble, Harper’s Mariachi del Río, under the excellent direction of Mr. Oscar Garibay. Mr. Garibay joined the DJUSD music team this Fall to teach our new mariachi class and help build a mariachi program into the future. They will be performing several traditional songs—all arranged by Mr. Garibay. Harper’s Bands and Orchestras, under the direction of Greg Brucker, will perform music by Gustav Holst, Serge Rachmaninoff, Joseph Bologne and the wonderful but lesser-known composers Robert Sheldon and Robert D. Smith, and much more.

Amy Martinez, DJUSD Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator, will join us as the Master of Ceremonies.

The concert is free and open to families, friends, and supporters of the student musicians.
