Poll Zhang received Dean's Circle Award; an "Exceptional Graduate" 06/08/2026

A big congratulations to Poll Zhang, who was honored with a Dean's Circle Award for outstanding academics and community service. She is earning a bachelor’s degree in food science with a minor in statistics and will start the Ph.D. program in food chemistry at UC Davis.

A Brewing Reunion at a Turning Point for Beer 03/10/2026

Professor Emeritus Michael Lewis established brewing as an academic discipline in the 1960s. Distinguished Professor Emeritus Charlie Bamforth, who joined the faculty in 1999, expanded the program’s global reach. Anheuser-Busch Endowed Professor Glen Fox, who took over the program in 2019, is now guiding it through a period of industry disruption.

For the first time all three current and former UC Davis brewing professors stood together inside the pilot brewery. They represented nearly six decades of brewing education that has helped shape modern American beer.

A major five-year study on California’s Central Coast led by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Western Center for Food Safety at the University of California, Davis, is helping scientists better understand how harmful bacteria can move through the environment.

Study Improves Understanding of Food Safety Risks in California Central Coast Produce UC Davis researchers found harmful strains of E. coli, including types that can cause serious human illness, in animal and environmental sources in the Salinas Valley.
