A Public Lecture by Dominic Dominic Brookshaw

Currently an Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature and Persian Literature at Stanford University, Dominic Parviz Brookshaw explores pre-modern Persian and Arabic literature through the intersection of performance, patronage, and desire. His research examines the emergence and genesis of Persian wine poetry and its relationship to earlier and contemporaneous Arabic wine poetry, women poets and women patrons in the early Qajar period, and Iranian poets and their dialogue with the classical Persian poetic canon in twentieth-century Persian poetry. Before arriving at Stanford, Dominic Parviz Brookshaw taught medieval and modern Persian literature and Persian language at the University of Manchester (2007-2011), McGill University (2005-2007), and the University of Oxford (2002-2005). He is the Assistant Editor for Iranian Studies and serves on the Board of the International Society for Iranian Studies.
