Another reason to be careful with fishing line. This poor bat dangled for hours before we were able to successfully recover it. Luckily, its injuries are minor and we expect her to be back out in the wild very soon.

These are some of our ambassador bats. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife did a photo session with us to acquire more pictures and videos to enhance their education and outreach.

We have had THREE cases in less than a week where well-meaning people picked up bats bare-handed. Please don't handle ANY rabies vector species with bare hands. Even tiny babies will be killed to be tested for rabies if local public health deems it necessary after bare hand contact. Please, just don't. Saving them means responsible handling.

Deadly 'white-nose syndrome' detected in Oregon bats for the first time 03/22/2026

Another state, our neighbors to the north. You may see postings that there is recovery. Those are exaggerated. The fungus is still spreading, it is still killing bats. Although some species haven't been affected, others are devastated. One baby, once a year. 90+% loss in some species.

If you watch the video, you may notice they used fruit bats rather than bats native to Oregon. But at least the words and the article are accurate.
